🌍♻️ GLOBAL RECYCLING DAY | GreenZA ♻️🌍

Today we celebrate Global Recycling Day — but more importantly, we celebrate YOU👇

To the waste pickers , the real environmental heroes on the ground, turning waste into income and dignity.
To recycling companies , driving innovation and keeping materials in circulation.

GreenZA is proud to have attended the e-Waste Training Programme facilitated by RadTech in collaboration with the .org and .

The training provided a comprehensive, hands-on approach to the safe handling, dismantling, recycling, and responsible management of discarded electronic waste. From understanding hazardous components to applying best-practice dismantling techniques and compliance requirements, the programme strengthened our technical capacity in e-waste operations.

As GreenZA, we remain committed to advancing responsible waste management systems that protect the environment, create jobs, and contribute to a circular economy. E-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally, and proper management is critical to preventing soil, water, and air contamination.

We had the incredible opportunity to visit Lukwarani and Khathisa Primary Schools, bringing recycling bins to empower learners to take action for our planet!

Through Zithande, in partnership with .circle our focus was simple but powerful: learners first. We engaged with students, showing them how every bottle, paper, and can counts, and how they can make a real difference in their school and community.

The energy in the classrooms was electric! Learners were curious, excited, and ready to take responsibility for recovering more recyclables. We shared tips on how to sort waste properly, and discussed how small daily actions can create huge environmental impact.

This is more than a donation, it’s a movement. When young minds are inspired, change spreads faster than we imagine.

A huge thank you to everyone at .circle for making this possible. Together, we’re not just teaching recycling—we’re planting seeds for a greener future. 💚

We are proud to have contributed to this impact.
In 2024, South Africa recovered 1.2 million tonnes of paper, keeping 60% out of landfill because waste collectors showed up every day.

At GreenZA, we see the people behind the numbers. Waste collectors are the backbone of recycling. Without collection, there is no recycling and no circular economy.

We are honoured to stand with waste collectors and be part of real change.

Schools are back and paper waste is increasing 📚✏️
GreenZA is supporting the Zithande Mzansi Back2School recycling competition with Fibre Circle to help schools recycle old books, exam papers and unused notes the right way.

Schools that collect and sort paper stand a chance to win cash prizes based on collections per learner. Less waste, cleaner schools and learners learning sustainability in action.

If your school is not yet part of the Zithande Mzansi programme, this is your chance to join. Email [email protected] and get involved.

Tag your school and be part of the recycling movement in 2026 ♻️

2026 has begun at full speed, and we’re ecstatic for the year ahead!

Festive decorations get packed away and it’s back-to-school season 📚✏️

From textbooks to notepads and exam papers galore, South African students use a substantial amount of paper products. With all this waste, we want to make sure you dispose of it in the most sustainable way.

At Fibre Circle, we are dedicated to reducing waste and recycling for a more sustainable environment for future generations. That is why we are excited to announce the Zithande Mzansi Back2School recycling competition.

We want to reward your school for contributing to a cleaner environment and supporting the circular economy!

It's simple. If your school is enrolled in the Zithande Mzansi programme, all you need to do is collect and sort any old books, exam materials and other paper products. The schools with the highest collection rates per learner stand a chance to win amazing cash prizes! All materials will be collected by your collections partner.

Not enrolled with the Zithande Mzansi programme? No problem, let’s help you join! Reach out to us on our email [email protected] and get in on the fun.

Keep your eyes out for more competition info, you surely will not want to miss out.

From Throwing Away to Building the Future.

We are deeply honoured to be an E-waste beneficiary under Thulamela Local Municipality, in partnership with , and supported by the ILO and the people of Japan 🇯🇵.

As a youth-led company, this opportunity means more than just recycling electronics. It represents hope, dignity, jobs, and a new way of thinking for our communities.

Growing up, I had the same mindset many of us had. We threw waste on the ground, believing we were creating jobs, not knowing the silent damage we were causing to our environment. We did not understand that every discarded cable, phone, or computer was poisoning our soil, polluting our water streams, and slowly destroying our future.

Today, that mindset has changed.
Today, we stand together as GreenZA, choosing action over ignorance.

By embracing E-waste recycling, we are creating real jobs for youth and women, protecting our soil and water, preparing our villages for investment and development, and restoring pride in our communities.

Throwing waste on the ground does not only make our villages look dirty. It contaminates the very resources that feed us and sustain our livelihoods. Clean environments attract investors. Healthy soil grows food. Protected water secures life.

This programme is proof that when youth are trusted, supported, and empowered, they become solution builders.

We sincerely thank Thulamela Local Municipality, LEDET, the International Labour Organization, and the people of Japan for believing in youth and believing in GreenZA.

We commit to continue raising awareness, creating jobs, and making Thulamela green again for today and for generations to come 🌍💚

The future is green. The future is youth-led. The future is now.

Every year millions of electrical and electronic devices are discarded as products break or become obsolete and are thrown away. These discarded devices are considered e-waste and can become a threat to health and the environment if they are not disposed of and recycled appropriately.

Common items in e-waste streams include computers, mobile phones, large household appliances, and medical equipment. Millions of tonnes of e-waste are recycled using unsound activities, as well as being stored in homes and warehouses, dumped, and illegally exported. When e-waste is recycling using unsound activities, it can release up to 1000 different chemical substances into the environment, including known neurotoxicants such as lead . Pregnant women and children are particularly vulnerable due to their pathways of exposure and developmental status. The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that 16.5 million children were working in the industrial sector in 2020, of which waste processing is a subsector .

Let’s rethink how we dispose of our electronics.

🌍 As we close another year, we pause with gratitude at GreenZA.

This year reminded us that recycling is not just about waste , it’s about people, partnerships, and shared responsibility.
To the families who sorted at home, the businesses that trusted us with their recyclables, and the partners who walked this journey with us, thank you.
You helped turn everyday waste into real impact.

From old documents and archives finally cleared out, to plastic given a second life, to electronic waste responsibly recycled , every action mattered. What no longer served you became part of a cleaner, greener future.

As we step into a new year, we invite you to start fresh:
♻️ Clean out your homes and offices
♻️ Recycle paper, box, plastic, and e-waste
♻️ Choose sustainability , not just once, but every day.

✨ Happy New Year to our community, clients, and partners.

Thank you for believing in GreenZA and for choosing progress over waste. Let’s do even more together in the year ahead.
