The WARD Foundation participated in a successful two-day quarterly review meeting in Thabazimbi, where stakeholders of SIOC-CDT SA came together to review the progress of active projects currently being implemented within the Thabazimbi Local Municipality.

The meeting brought together key government institutions, including the Department of Social Development Limpopo - DSD and the Department of Health, who serve as custodians of policies within the sectors in which The WARD Foundation operates.

During the meeting, The WARD Foundation team presented progress on the work being implemented in partnership with Soul City Institute through the Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) Response Programme. The engagement provided an important platform for feedback and strategic alignment with partner organisations and policy custodians such as the Department of Social Development.

One of the key discussions that emerged from the meeting was the importance of data in telling the story of within the area, further highlighting the significance and impact of the work being implemented.

Through strong partnerships and a shared vision for change, we continue to advance evidence-based interventions that strengthen community responses to . In partnership with Soul City Institute, we have launched financial education programs in selected schools in the SIOC-CDT SA beneficiary communities in the Northern Cape province. Through these efforts, we are supporting students in learning fundamental elements of the financial world, such as saving money, budgeting, investing, managing debt, evaluating risk and reward, and developing basic entrepreneurial skills. Equally important, through high-quality financial education programming, we are helping students to develop the motivation and confidence for lifelong learning and problem-solving.

Beyond instilling basic financial skills and habits, we have noted that financial education can foster a strong sense of empowerment, self-confidence, and teamwork, as well as broaden students’ sense of possibility.

For girls especially, financial literacy is a life-long skill that can transform their lives and the lives of their families, helping them to be better prepared for the future and to contribute meaningfully to the economic growth of their community. As the WARD Foundation, we believe that these efforts will have meaningful improvements not only in students’ basic financial knowledge, but also in their levels of confidence, assertiveness, and overall sense of agency.

Additionally, this empowerment equips learners, especially girls, with the confidence, independence, and decision-making capacity to reduce vulnerability to gender-based violence and assert control over their lives.

Our efforts in financial education are in line with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Vision Statement for Transforming Education, which identifies financial literacy as a crucial component of moving our world closer to many of the sustainable development goals, including , reduction, and , and responsible consumption and production.

In the last two days, the WARD Foundation participated in the Quarterly Review Meeting (Q1 2026), which brought together partners implementing SIOC-CDT SA funded projects across the beneficiary communities in the Northern Cape, alongside key government stakeholders.

We had the opportunity to present progress and key milestones from the Karabelo Response Programme, which we are proud to co-implement with the Soul City Institute. The engagement provided a valuable platform to reflect on impact, share insights, and strengthen collective accountability.

Beyond our presentation, we gained meaningful learnings from the successes and best practices of fellow partners, while also identifying trends in community needs and critical areas for collaboration. The importance of stronger alignment with government systems and a shared commitment towards achieving the SIOC-CDT impact targets was a key takeaway.

We remain committed to strengthening partnerships, driving evidence-based interventions, and advancing a coordinated response that delivers lasting impact in our communities.

Happy International Women’s Day 2026!

Today we honour the strength and leadership of women and girls under this year’s global themes:
• Give to Gain — investing in women strengthens communities.
• Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls — dismantling barriers to economic freedom, safety, and justice.

At WARD Foundation, our work in the Northern Cape and Limpopo brings these themes to life through:
• Women & Youth Economic Empowerment Programmes
• Financial Literacy and Money Management Training
• Support for survivors of Gender‑Based Violence and families impacted by femicide
• Partnerships with Soul City Institute, CBOs, and Civil Society Organisations

Financial literacy is not only an economic tool — it is a pathway to justice and independence.

Through we work with government entities that provide capital and enterprise support to women‑led projects to access resources to thrive.

Current & Context:
• Northern Cape GBVF: High assault and s*xual‑offence trends; increases noted especially in Kuruman.
• Limpopo GBVF: Ongoing justice‑sector interventions through 100‑Day Challenge programmes.
• Women’s Unemployment (2025): Northern Cape 32.7%; Limpopo 35.0%.

When women succeed, communities transform. When we give, we all gain.

Today, the WARD Foundation joins the global community in commemorating Human Rights Day — a reminder of our collective responsibility to uphold the rights, safety, and dignity of every person.

This year’s theme, “Our Everyday Essentials”, focuses on bridging the gap between human rights principles and everyday experiences, aiming to spark awareness, inspire confidence and encourage collective action.

At the WARD Foundation, our work is informed by the simple truth that human rights are non-negotiable and that everyone has the right to live free from violence, discrimination, poverty, and exclusion. We have partnered with Soul City Institute to build and provide evidence-based responses to address the drivers and intersectional risks of , and other forms of human rights violations, amongst girls and women in SIOC-CDT SA beneficiary communities, as well as strengthen the localisation of response amongst community-based organisations (CBOs) and civil society organisations.

As we reflect on this year’s progress, we reaffirm our commitment to:
— Championing human dignity in every programme, partnership, and intervention.
— Strengthening community systems that protect women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
— Stand with survivors and amplify community voices.

We continue our work to build communities free from GBVF, inequality, and exclusion—where everyone’s rights are protected and respected.

The Karabelo GBVF Response Programme official launch event was a success!

We thank all participants for engaging with openness, courage, and purpose.

We thank our partners – from the public, private and the civil sectors – for their strong collaboration.

A special shout out to SIOC-CDT SA for their patronage.

The event created a safe and transformative space for honest dialogue, reflection, and collective commitment to building safer homes and communities — against GBVF!

Today's commitments mark an important step in strengthening community driven solutions to end GBVF — with men as allies!

— and we look forward to continuing this journey together.
