👏 A chapter well led comes to a close.

Last week we held our final business meeting of the 2025/26 Rotary year, and it was a fitting send off for our Club President, Bev Hancock, who has led this club with heart, purpose, and no shortage of hard work.

What a year it has been, Bev. From the opening of the ECD School in Rondomskrik to a prestigious ECD District & Global Project award, from our Kenyan visitor reviewing the Global Grant, to new members, from social evenings around the fire to fundraisers and friend exchanges. This club has had a year to be proud of, and your leadership made it possible.

But we are not done yet.

🎉 Please join us in welcoming our newest member!

The Rotary Club of Swellendam is proud to introduce Charisse Fourie, our newest inductee into the club.

Charisse brings with her years of experience as a Counsellor and TRE Provider, and that depth of knowledge and compassion is going to be a tremendous asset to everything we do in this club and in our community.

But beyond the skills and the experience, we are simply glad she is here. Rotary is built on friendship, fellowship, and a shared desire to make life better for the people around us. Charisse embodies all of that.

Welcome to the family, Charisse. The projects we tackle, the communities we serve, and the friendships you are going to build here will make this one of the best decisions you have ever made.

🍗 The ECD School just held their very first fundraiser and it was a hit!

Chicken and chips. Simple. Delicious. Sold out.

The team at the ECD School in Rondomskrik rolled up their sleeves and got to work for their first ever fundraiser, and what a success it was. Nandi and her team took charge in the kitchen and delivered the goods, while Bernie and Sophia ran the sales side with a smile.

The community showed up, the food flew out, and the tills kept ringing.

This is more than just a fundraiser. This is a school finding its feet, building its own momentum, and taking ownership of its future. That is exactly what we hoped to see when those doors opened.

And the best part? They plan to make it a regular event.

Watch this space. The next one is coming and you are going to want to be there. 🙌

🔥 Tonight at The Hideaway, the fire was roaring and so were we.

Our latest social meeting delivered everything you could want on a winter's evening in Swellendam. Warm food, warm company, and plenty to talk about.

Jovana treated us to freshly made Bunny Chow that hit every right note, followed by the most indulgent desserts courtesy of the Langeberg Hospice. Strawberry pudding and peppermint tart. Yes, both. No regrets.

The mood tonight was something special. The room was buzzing. Friends catching up, stories being swapped, and more than a few conversations about the wild storms that have battered our region this past week. Swellendam folk are resilient like that.

And of course, the excitement about everything happening in Rotary right now was impossible to miss. Between the ECD School, the District Conference award, our Kenyan visitor, and so much more, our club has a lot to be proud of and everyone felt it tonight.

This is the other side of Rotary that not everyone sees. Yes, we serve. But we also sit around a fire together, eat good food, and genuinely enjoy each other's company.

That matters too.

From Monday, 10 May, when our beautiful town and community was left reeling from severe storm conditions, through to today, our Swellendam Municipality - SWEMun teams have worked tirelessly to restore services and support our community — through dangerously high winds, relentless rain and now, thankfully, clearer skies.
To every official, worker and support team member who has continued showing up under incredibly difficult conditions: thank you!
Your commitment, resilience and service to Swellendam during this challenging time have not gone unnoticed. 💚 On behalf of our Rotary club, we are so grateful to our partners My SPAR Swellendam in providing hot soup and fresh rolls to such well deserving teams.

🌍 A week to remember for the Rotary Club of Swellendam.

What a week it has been. Here is everything that happened.

Dr. Eva Nderu visits Swellendam 🇰🇪

We welcomed Dr. Eva Nderu from Rotary District 9212 in Kenya to Swellendam this week. Dr. Eva met with our Global Grant team to review the ECD project funds and go through compliance for the Rondomskrik school. She then met with the School Governing Body and the Rotary School Trust, toured the ECD Centre, and took in the breathtaking views our little town has to offer. We hope Swellendam left a lasting impression!

Our May Business Meeting and AGM 📋

On Tuesday we held our business meeting for May alongside our Annual General Meeting. Dr. Eva and other guests joined us as our Directors presented their reports on club activities and goals for the Rotary year. There has been tremendous growth across many areas of the club, and we are honest about the areas we are still working to improve. That is what a healthy club looks like.

A gift exchange across continents 🎁

Dr. Eva presented our club with a beautiful scarf bearing the colours of her club, Karen Green of Nairobi. In return, we gifted her our club banner to take home to Kenya, where it will hang proudly on their wall. A small gesture. A lasting connection.

New President Elected 🎉

We are thrilled to announce that Past District Governor Stephen Young has been elected as President of the Rotary Club of Swellendam for the 2027/2028 Rotary Year. Congratulations Stephen. We know the club is in great hands.

🏆 We brought home an award!

What an incredible weekend at the Rotary District 9350 Conference.

The Rotary Club of Swellendam is proud to announce that we received a prestigious district award for our Early Childhood Development project, the ECD School in Rondomskrik. Our President Bev Hancock stepped up to accept the certificate from the District Governor, and we could not be more proud.

This award belongs to everyone who made that school a reality. Every Rotarian who gave their time. Every partner club from Germany, the United States, and Canada who crossed an ocean to stand with us. Every sponsor, every donor, every person who believed in what we were building before the first brick was laid.

Four years of hard work. 32 children through the door on opening day. Room for over 100 more. And now, recognition at district level.

But honestly? Seeing those children learn and grow is the only award that truly matters.

Thank you to Rotary District 9350 for this honour. And thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey from the very beginning.

The best is still to come. 🌍❤️
