Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) applications going online !

Launch Date: The new, fully digital online application process official planned launch is on 27 February 2026.

Transition Period: A pilot phase will run from 8 December 2025 to 26 February 2026.

Discontinuation of Manual Submissions: The manual submission process (using the EI1 form) will be discontinued effective 12 December 2025.

Requirements: To use the online system, organizations must register for Income Tax, create an eFiling profile, and appoint a registered representative.

Key Benefits of the Online System:

Reduced Turnaround Time:
The new process aims for a faster turnaround time of 21 days.

Electronic Submission: Applications can be filled in and submitted online, removing the need to print, sign, and scan documents.

Improved Accuracy:
The digital system validates information, highlighting errors before submission.

Current Process (Pre-27 February 2026):
While the full, automated system is launching in 2026, organizations can already download the EI1 application form, fill it in electronically, and submit it through the SARS online query system.

Remember : Organizations must ensure they have an Income Tax reference number, an eFiling profile, and all supporting documents (like constitutions, bank statements, and annual financial statements) plus a registered representative before applying online .

I beleive the above to be correct, but only after the 27th Feburary once live , will we be able to verify .
