Her Voice

Her Voice We are a sisterhood of women who've decided to allow our stories to make us better than the world we

Every Saturday, a group of mothers and mothers-to-be gather in Kayamandi. It’s a lively morning, with babies sleeping on laps, toddlers exploring the room and older children playing outside, while women from different parts of Stellenbosch get to know and love each other. Being mums ourselves, we realise the pressure of raising children, even in a stable environment. The women from Kayamandi come

from backgrounds with little or no support and the better we get to know them, the more we’re inspired by their courage in taking care of their children while working (and often also studying). Our heart is to lend them support in every area where they need it – emotional, spiritual and practical.

Last Thursday, Her Voice had the honour of bringing together various NGOs from Kayamandi for a shared lunch rooted in connection, learning, and collaboration. Each organisation had the opportunity to share more about the work they do.
We unpacked where our focus areas align, identified spaces of overlap, and had honest conversations about how we can avoid working in silos. More importantly, we explored practical ways to support one another, strengthen existing efforts, and build partnerships that will lead to deeper, more sustainable impact in Kayamandi.

This gathering wasn’t just about sharing a meal, it was about building trust, fostering relationships, and laying the foundation for meaningful collaboration moving forward 🩵🩵🩵

Last Sunday, Her Voices took to the beautiful slopes of Coetzenberg for a soul-filling hike with the wonderful who is truly a gem of a human!

There’s something powerful about moving our bodies in nature, breathing in fresh air, and allowing ourselves to slow down enough to actually listen. Our Sunday Sessions are not only held indoors, we’re intentionally exploring how nature is part of how we care for ourselves. Because self-care isn’t just rest; it’s movement, connection, presence, and tuning into what our bodies are asking for.

As we walked, talked, and took in the views, we were reminded that our bodies are wise. When we step outside, we remember that we are nature too, and caring for ourselves means honouring that connection.

Grateful for community, fresh air, and gentle reminders to slow down.
Here’s to many more Sunday Sessions in all the spaces that hold us 🩵

Over the last two weeks, our sessions have been deeply intentional and meaningful.
We began with an honest conversation about safe spaces - what they truly mean and how, as an organization, we can actively create an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, valued, and protected. A safe space isn’t just a concept; it’s a commitment in how we speak, listen, and show up for one another.

The following week, we shifted our focus to our organizational values and reflected on how they align with our personal values. Because when who we are matches what we stand for, we move with clarity, integrity, and purpose - and that’s where real impact begins.

The pictures being shared are from our Sunday session on values.
We’re not just building an organisation, we’re building a community grounded in faith, unity, and purpose.

In our first session of 2026, we celebrated Nomlindelo as she steps into her next chapter.
After 7 years with Her Voice, her exit is a reminder of what this space stands for - growth, healing, and moving forward when you’re ready. While it’s never easy to say goodbye, we’re proud of how far she’s come and what her journey represents.
Nomlindelo’s presence meant so much to many. Along the way, she became a sister, a source of support, and an important part of our community.
As we wish her well, we know this isn’t the end , just a new beginning. Thank you, Nomlindelo, for everything you shared with us. 🩵

HerVoice at 10

A message from our new CEO, Ayanda Nyoka.
______________________________________

Spring has arrived, and lately, I find myself following the sun, seeking out that sweet, warm spot wherever I go. Just like the season, this new chapter in my journey with HerVoice brings with it a sense of renewal and possibility. In many ways, it feels like a homecoming, an opportunity to reconnect with and amplify the life force of women in our township communities.

From my early, yet deeply meaningful interactions, I can already say this with confidence: HerVoice women are a life-giving force in Kayamandi. By owning their stories and knitting together a sisterhood, they are actively reshaping the future for themselves, their children, and their community. That’s an inspiring vision, one I am honoured to be part of and to lead, especially at this critical juncture as HerVoice marks 10 years of service.

There is newness all around , not just in the season, but within us as an organisation. As we celebrate a decade of working alongside young mothers and women in Kayamandi, we are also embracing this moment as a creative opportunity to reimagine what the next 10 years of HerVoice might look like. Over the next few months, we will be focusing on strengthening our impact measurement capacity, refining our strategy, and deepening strategic partnerships to ensure greater social impact and long-term sustainability.

As HerVoice turns 10, we honour our founder, Alex Nomavuka, and all who helped build this sisterhood - your seeds have taken root, and we will continue to nurture and propagate them for lasting change. We are grateful to our Board, funders, and partners, your support sustains us.
This Spring, may we all be rays of sunshine, seeding hope in others.

Educational psychologists play such a powerful role in helping families understand and support the emotional and learning needs of their children. But access to this kind of support is often out of reach for many in our community.

That’s why we’re so grateful for our recent collaboration with the MA Educational Psychology students from , who helped us bring this kind of care right to our members. Over the past few weeks, they’ve journeyed with us and it’s been beautiful 🌱

Together, we created spaces for kids, teens, and moms to learn, reflect and grow.

✨ With the kids, we:
🎨 Celebrated our similarities and differences
😌 Learned how to notice and calm big feelings
🧌 Made “mood monsters” out of clay — giving emotions names, shapes, and care

✨ With the teens, we explored:
🧠 Self-concept and identity
🤝 Emotional safety and trust
🚀 Strengths, dreams, and navigating peer and family relationships

✨ With the moms, we dived into:
💬 Family communication
🧘🏽‍♀️ Self-care and how it shapes parenting
💭 Navigating fear and control in motherhood

We’ll be ending this journey with a final connection session, bringing moms and kids together.

To the Educational Psychology team, thank you for walking alongside us and making emotional and learning support more accessible. Here's to education , healing, hope, and continued collaboration 🫶🏾💙
