More about Kylemore Charity Foundation

Kylemore Charity Foundation (KCF) was formed in December 2014. It started out as a group of friends wanting to rekindle a connection from years ago. We got trapped in the responsibilities of adulthood and we lost our spontaneity, so we set up an opportunity to get together, which came in the form of a cricket match. From a 15-year reunion for old mates came

a community-changing initiative that has, in a short space of time, touched lives and offered hope to a number of people. The interim committee of members is now referred to as “The Firm” (no, we are not gangsters); planning events that build community spirit and raise funds for those in need. It all started with a Facebook post
In December 2014, one of the founder members, Brandon (aka Mr. Prez), threw out an off-the-bat prompt on Facebook.

“How about a cricket reunion?” saw a response of 333 comments and hundreds of likes. This was extraordinary! The interest and enthusiasm shown in the comments on the post had to be put to good use: a group of friends getting together to play cricket could be the answer to an ex-team-mate’s medical expenses. The ideas started flowing and the committee started working. Smart planning and marketing via social media saw our first event. Though we didn’t expect many spectators, we invited all who knew of the inter-village cricket rivalry, to attend. The Cricket Day
On 10 January 2015, a month after the Facebook post, the cricket players’ ‘reunion’ kicked off with great excitement.

10am saw the start of the first match, with a spectatorship of only around 20 people. But, we were hit for a six at 11am, when the entire stadium was packed to the rafters! The community had come out in numbers to support their team. The chairman of the local rugby club also seemed to be bowled over with the attendance, saying that they had tried in so many ways, and with little success, to draw the public to their games. The answer lied in the one distinguishing factor: Kylemore inhabitants are givers. They show up and stand together like a guild when someone is in need. The 10th of January 2015 made a R15 000 dent in the reconstructive surgery procedure our ex-team-mate Clinton needed. The next event followed soon:

Kylemore’s Family Day
Building on the success of the cricket match, the Family Day not only raised the bar in terms of community spirit and entertainment - a potjiekos competition, activities for the tots, a dance-off, a domino challenge while as well as live music - it raised the bar in terms of profits too! The events managed to raise R37 000, which helped 5 more people with physical and mental disabilities from within the community. GEMEENSKAPSVERGADERING

Liefdegroete
