To:
The Honorable Gayton McKenzie - Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture
The Honorable Panyaza Lesufi - Premier of Gauteng Province
The Honorable Matome Chiloane - MEC of Sports, Arts and Culture
The Honorable Tebogo Nkokou – MMC of Sports, Arts & Culture

Dear Honorable Minister, Premier, MEC and MMC,

I hope this letter finds you in good spirits and health. As a concerned resident, a basketball player and coach of Soweto Falcons/Arsenal basketball club based in Meadowlands Zone 3 in Soweto and an active member of our local basketball community, I am writing to bring your attention to the pressing issue of the neglected multi-purpose facility in Bapedi Hall, which has not seen any repairs or maintenance for over a decade.

The deterioration of the multi-purpose facilities is not just a matter of infrastructure; it represents a significant loss of safe spaces for our youth. With limited recreational facilities available, many young people in our community are increasingly drawn into risky and destructive behaviors. The absence of a functional space for sports, arts, and cultural activities severely limits their opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and community engagement.

As a dedicated member of our community, I can attest to the challenges we face in training under these subpar conditions. Despite our passion and commitment, we are constantly battling against the odds stacked against us. The worn-out facilities not only hinder our performance but also demotivate our youth, who need encouragement and positive outlets for their energy and creativity.

We believe that investing in the restoration and maintenance of Bapedi Hall (Multi-purpose sports facility) would not only uplift our community but also serve as a catalyst for change. A revitalized facility would provide our youth with a safe and productive environment where they can engage in sports, arts, and cultural activities, steering them away from detrimental behaviors and towards a brighter future.

We kindly urge you to prioritize the refurbishment of Bapedi Hall and similar facilities in our area. Your support in this matter would not only enhance the lives of our young people but also foster a sense of community pride and cohesion.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to your positive response and hope to see meaningful action taken soon.

Sincerely,
Israel Masengana
