The holidays are not safe for everyone.

As December approaches, most people are thinking of joy, family, and celebration.

But for many women and children, the holidays mean:

more time at home with their abusers
no school or work as a safe space
rising stress and fewer resources
That’s why COPESSA doesn’t slow down.
We’re here during the 16 Days of Activism campaign and beyond, offering real support, safe spaces, and life-saving interventions.

Please share this with someone who might need it or contact us if you need support. You never know whose life you could change.

Let’s play a quick game: Which of these is violence?

1️⃣ Yelling and name-calling

2️⃣ Controlling who someone talks to

3️⃣ Forbidding them from studying or working

4️⃣ Ignoring their opinions, needs or boundaries

5️⃣ All of the above

If you said 5, you’re right because violence isn’t always physical. It’s also emotional, psychological, and financial. It’s about power and control.

is approaching; it's a reminder to challenge what we think we know about abuse. The more we understand it, the more we can stop it.

Have you ever heard someone say: “But it’s not real abuse”?

Share this post - let’s educate with empathy.

Violence doesn’t just break bones or spirits; it breaks places.

It breaks homes that were meant to feel safe. It breaks communities where trust once lived. It breaks children’s sense of what love should be.

We’ve seen that healing a person also means rebuilding the spaces around them: homes, parks, schools, and communities that nurture safety and belonging.

That’s why we help families find peace again. That’s why women rebuild purpose through sewing projects like Biyela. That’s why survivors find their voices here.

Every act of kindness repairs something broken. Every safe space restores a little more hope.

Children don’t “bounce back” from abuse - they heal with help.

COPESSA works with some of the youngest survivors of abuse and violence.

Some are just 3 years old. Some cry themselves to sleep. Some can’t find the words for what they’ve seen.

That’s where we come in - with counselling, play therapy, and care for the whole family.

No child should have to carry trauma alone.

Help us create safer homes and stronger futures.

Because healing needs to starts young.

DM us if you know someone who needs assistance.

“She believed she could… so she learned to sew.”

Not every comeback starts with a roar. Sometimes, it begins quietly - with thread, fabric, and trembling hands. She didn’t have it all figured out.

She just knew she wanted more dignity, more purpose, more for her children. So she showed up, learned to stitch, listened, laughed. And slowly, her story changed.

Today, she’s not just making jackets. She’s making healing happen.

For herself. For others. For a world that needs more hands like hers.

This is the heart behind Biyela - a jacket stitched with courage, by women who believed they could.

You can help survivors of abuse - right from where you are.

You don’t need big money or a big platform to make a big impact. Sometimes, the most powerful support starts small. Here’s how you can show up:

1. Share a post

Your share could be the sign someone needs to know they’re not alone. Awareness saves lives.

2. Listen with empathy

Sometimes the best support is simply listening without judgment. Let someone know they are seen, believed, and not alone.

3. Connect them to expert support

If someone opens up to you, you don’t have to carry it alone.

Gently guide them toward expert help.

COPESSA offers trauma counselling, parenting support, and a safe space to heal.

Visit copessa.co.za to learn more or reach out. Because healing isn’t meant to happen alone.

Trauma bonding: Why some survivors stay.

“Why don’t they just leave?” Because sometimes, love and fear live side by side.

Trauma bonding happens when an abuser mixes cruelty with affection. Over time, survivors feel trapped, confused, even loyal - not because they’re weak, but because they’re surviving the only way they know how.

💛 Abuse isn’t always constant
💛 The good moments create hope
💛 Isolation makes it harder to leave

Let’s stop judging. Start listening. And support survivors on their journey to healing.
