As per City of Cape Town comments in this thread, Driving License Testing Centres can still only assist with driving tests and card collections.

City motor licensing offices closed due to national system error

The City regrets to inform customers that all offices are closed due to the National Administration Traffic Information System being offline.

It is outside of the City’s control.

To reduce potential inconvenience, please call a particular customer office to check if it is operational ahead of visiting. More offices might have to close.

Please Don’t Feed the Dassies

They may look cute, but please don’t feed them

Overstrand Municipality has received reports of a person feeding dassies (rock hyraxes) at Gearing’s Point in Hermanus and asking tourists for money, similar to the feeding of seals sometimes seen in Hout Bay.

The Municipality asks residents and visitors not to encourage or participate in this activity. Anyone witnessing someone feeding the dassies or soliciting money in this way is requested to report it to Overstrand Law Enforcement on 028 313 8996.

Dassies occur naturally throughout Overstrand and are often seen near lookout points and along cliff paths, particularly where people gather to enjoy the scenery or eat takeaways.

Feeding wild animals, despite your best intentions, could do more harm than good.

Dassies feed naturally on grasses, shrubs, leaves and other vegetation.

Human food such as bread, crisps and sweets is not suitable for them and can cause health problems.

Feeding also teaches wild animals to associate people with food, which can alter their natural behaviour and may eventually lead to animals becoming dependent on or aggressive towards people.

Somerset West communications roome involved through our Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) network!!

A note was circulated last night around 21h00 about a missing vulnerable person with health issues who last made contact with their family around 17h00 as they passed Somerset West.

They were heading for Durbanville from the Overberg.

A call was made to the LPR user group with regestration details, and Tableview NW immediately responded with a trigger in Milnerton around 19h00. All responders were alerted to search the streets there.

Nothing.

Then a call was made to Durbanville NW & LPR for patrollers to search, in case she was close to her initial destination, and their wider LPR network was checked.

This showed the vehicle triggering in Parklands 20 minutes prior - around 21h30 Obviously the person had become very much lost. And in an area that borders on a seriously dangerous suburb.

Immediately Tableview responders were redirected; they found the person about 25 minutes later disorientated and confused. Their family, who were assisting in the search a distance away, were contacted and were able to get them to a safe bed before midnight.

So very grateful for the caring folk out there who jumped in to assist as soon as they heard the call for help.

What a wonderful illustration of a network of various players working together: concerned citizens, AR companies, SAPS and the LPR techies who keep these information systems in place.

Thank you for everyone who plays a role in keeping this extremely necessary service going. Volunteers, funders, people who share our information and those who take the time to call in and report issues. This is what community looks like!
