Senecio - Support for people with disabilities Senecio is a Non-Profit Company that supports adults with disabilities.

Our vision is to create a better everyday quality of life for adults with disabilities at centres in the Western Cape, South Africa.

Dear Senecio Community, due to a shift in donor focus and funding priorities, Senecio Support for Persons with Disabilities will be closing its operations with immediate effect. We can say with a clear conscience that we have put great effort into trying to keep our doors open and ensure sustainability. We however did not anticipate that this would have such a sudden end, and we sincerely apologise for any confusion or disruption this may cause.

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have supported, trained, and partnered with you over the years. It has been a privilege to work alongside such committed teams, and to be part of the meaningful work happening in your centres and communities. While we are sad to see this chapter come to an end, we are also deeply thankful for all that we were able to do together. Please know how much we value the time we have spent walking this journey with you.

It is our greatest wish that you continue the great work you are doing and that you will be blessed in all of your pursuits.

As we look back on the year, it’s helpful to tally the numbers because they give us a sense of the scale of our work. But we know that numbers only tell part of the story. Their true meaning lies in the people behind them. Every visit, every conversation, and every moment of support has mattered.

We are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in so many lives. And just as importantly, we are thankful for what we have learnt from each person who has welcomed us into their world.

Thank you to every centre, every dedicated staff member, and every person with a disability who has partnered with us throughout 2025. Your trust and collaboration have shaped our year.

The International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is a day to celebrate and bring into the spotlight persons with disabilities. The IDPD day, organised by Overstrand APD, embodied this beautifully, in the way that persons with disabilities were put first in all activities. Our therapists had the privilege of joining in the day by facilitating games for children and adults, as well as offering face painting for the kids who took part in the parade. Here are a few of our highlights of the day....

The day started with a dancing demonstration and short walk to the hall, full of buzz and excitement for the day ahead

Various community stakeholders participated in the speeches and opening of the event

Caregivers of persons with disabilities often carry heavy physical and emotional loads. As part of the day's activities, caregivers had the opportunity to receive a short pamper session, and were offered Senecio pamphlets, created by our therapists, to acknowledge the load they carry and to provide some ideas for looking after themselves too.

Our therapists facilitated boccia and exercise snakes & ladders, which were enjoyed by many of the adults and kids who attended. These activities were chosen specifically because they can be played by people with or without disabilities. They brought a lot of fun and laughter (with a fair dose of competition) ☺️

(The boccia, in particular, could become competitive, with participants measuring carefully which ball came closer to the jack!)

All in all, it was a wonderful day and we were thrilled to be part of it!

This qualification deepens her ability to support persons living with chronic pain - empowering individuals to manage pain holistically and improve their daily function and quality of life.
