Day of Reconciliation 2025 will be remembered as a Collective Effort for Sustainable Change in Sir Lowry's Pass Village

We were proud to announce the formation of the Sir Lowry's Pass Village Constructive Solutions Group (SLPVCSG), a coalition of local organizations dedicated to uplifting our community and advocating for sustainable development. Our group includes esteemed organizations such as the Helderberg Disability Infrastructure Network, the Fatherhood Empowerment Initiative, and many others who share a vision of eradicating exploitation and ensuring that funding solicited on behalf of our community benefits our residents directly.

Today marked a significant milestone for our community as we partnered with Ubuntu Distribution Services, led by Sylvia and Graeme Dryding, alongside the generous team from 4MOTN365 Pty (Ltd) – Thomas van Rooy, Derico Jackson, Nathan Petersen, and David Daniels. Their commitment to supporting our adult residents through the donation of free clothing was a heartwarming example of community solidarity. We anticipate expanding this initiative into a monthly event, bringing even more joy and support to those in need. Lastly Rise Against Hunger Africa contributed Food Socks to unsure households have several meals during the Festive Season.

The distribution event held at the Ou Tappie in Sir Lowry's Pass Village was filled with smiles as we also offered sweet packets for the children and shared delicious home-cooked meals, graciously donated by our partners. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ubuntu Distribution Services and 4MOTN365 Pty (Ltd) for their generous contributions and for coming all the way from Cape Town to assist us.

As the Sir Lowry's Pass Village Constructive Solutions Group, we are committed to making our village a better place for all its residents. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey; together, we will realize our collective dreams for a sustainable and empowered community.

Gratitude in Action

On Thursday afternoon, the 17th of July 2025, the City of Cape Town handed SLPCD the keys of the restored Old Tappie back. On Mandela Friday, 18th of July 2025, we were helped by the ladies of the new Community Neighbourhood Watch to clean up. They did more than the usual Mandela Time. We moved our school desks and other furniture out of storage to get Gravitas@Tappie ready when the new school term starts on Tuesday, the 22nd of July. We are thankful that we could use the SLP Sport Clubhouse and 4The1’s Container and stoep while the restoration took place the past 5 months.

During the July School Holidays, the juniors “checked up” on the maintenance guys daily to ensure they stay on schedule so that we can move back into the Old Tappie.

The leaners came early, on the 22nd, all excited to see their new classroom. They helped to put the last educational posters on the wall. Now it is OUR classroom that will change, develop and grow with us.

Our alarm system and cameras were installed; our classroom is safe and secure with a 24/7 watch. We have proper Wi-Fi installation, now we are ready to learn and get our education. No more packing and unpacking daily.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Shoprite Group for our laptops and printer. Private donors that made it possible to get essential stationery for our learners. Helderberg Primary School for our school furniture. All investments make a substantial difference. These donations are more than just supplies. It’s a statement that learning doesn’t stop when the bell rings, and that every child deserves the tools to dream, create, and thrive. This support helps us do just that. Checkers donates food weekly to our Learners’ households to ensure that the Village children are fed to ensure their learning potential are improved.

Your support is important, because Gravitas@Tappie grew since the term started, last two weeks, with three pupils. There are more applications that must go through the Assessment Testing process.

We are additionally thankful to the Sir Lowry’s Pass Library to allowing us to have book on behalf of the learners.

We are thankful for the usage of the Community Hall for activities in the afternoons for the whole community.

We are thankful for the Villagers walking by that welcomed us back and popped in to comment on the ‘NEW’ Old Tappie. It is always welcomed if the community comes for a visit.
