We often talk about getting young people moving as though it’s simply about sport.

It’s much bigger than that. 🚲

The World Health Organization recommends that children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 accumulate an average of at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day. Yet 81% of adolescents globally are estimated to be insufficiently active.

That means creating opportunities for movement matters.

And those opportunities need to be accessible, safe and engaging.

Cycling gives us one way to do that.

Through TrailTherapy, we use cycling and outdoor activity to create structured opportunities for young people to move, participate and challenge themselves.

Because when we create more opportunities for young people to be active, we’re not simply creating cyclists.

We’re contributing to healthier, more active communities. 🌍

⛑️ Every time a child puts on a helmet, we see more than protective gear.

We see opportunity.

We see a young person being given the chance to learn, explore and build confidence in a safe environment.

Behind every helmet is a community of supporters, volunteers, partners and donors who make these experiences possible.

Every contribution, whether it’s funding equipment, supporting a school or volunteering time, helps create moments that can shape a child’s future.

That’s why every helmet tells a story.

Not just of safety.

But of belief, opportunity and hope.

💛 Thank you to everyone who helps us make those stories possible.

If you’d like to help create more stories like these, we’d love to partner with you. Get in touch and help us build brighter futures together.

🚲 One thing you’ll notice at Pedal for Good is that we never leave the last rider behind.

We wait.

We encourage.

We ride together.

Because our goal has never been to finish first.

Our goal is to make sure every child finishes believing they’re capable.

Those few extra minutes can change everything.

They tell a young person they’re valued, they’re supported and they don’t have to face challenges alone.

That’s what belonging looks like.

💛 And belonging is one of the greatest gifts we can give a child.

Today, we celebrate the legacy of Nelson Mandela by remembering that meaningful change has never been about one moment.

It has always been about showing up, consistently.

At Pedal for Good, we see that every day.

Every coach who gives their time.
Every volunteer who chooses to spend a Saturday with young people.
Every teacher who believes in a child.
Every partner who invests in a community.
Every supporter who makes our work possible.

These acts may seem small on their own, but together they create something extraordinary.

Madiba reminded us that education is the most powerful weapon to change the world. We believe that every opportunity we create through cycling, mentorship and community is another step towards that vision.

This Mandela Day, we’re reminded that changing South Africa doesn’t happen through one grand gesture.

It happens when ordinary people choose to do extraordinary things for others, day after day.

Together, we’re not just building trails.

We’re building confidence.

We’re building belonging.

We’re building the next generation of leaders.

We’re building South Africa’s future.

💛 Happy Mandela Day.

This Mandela Day, tell us how you’re making a difference in your community, whether it’s through 67 minutes or a lifelong commitment to serving others.

💛 One of the first things you’ll notice at Pedal for Good is that nobody gets criticised for falling off their bike.

In fact, some of our biggest celebrations happen after a child gets back up.

Because falling tells us something important.

It tells us they were willing to take a chance.

They pushed beyond what felt comfortable.

They attempted something new.

Too often, children grow up believing mistakes should be avoided.

We want them to learn something different.

Mistakes are part of learning.

Challenges are part of growing.

Falling is part of becoming stronger.

Some of the most confident young people we’ve worked with aren’t the ones who never fell.

They’re the ones who learnt that getting back up is what really matters.

🚲 Every fall is another opportunity to build resilience.

And resilience is a skill that lasts far longer than any ride.

Tell us about a time when failing at something actually helped you grow. We’d love to hear your story. 💛

🚲 Every ride begins the same way.

We stand together in a circle.

To someone watching, it may look like a simple routine.

But for us, it’s one of the most important parts of the programme.

Before confidence is built on the bike, it is built through connection. Before children challenge themselves, they are reminded that they are supported. Before the trail begins, a community is formed.

That circle reminds every young person that they belong, that their voice matters and that they don’t have to face challenges alone.

💛 Sometimes the strongest foundation for growth is simply knowing someone is standing beside you.

Tell us about a place where you felt you truly belonged.

💛 Some of the biggest moments in our programme don’t look big at all.

They’re the child who gets back on their bike after falling.

The participant who encourages a teammate instead of giving up.

The quiet smile after completing something they didn’t think they could do.

These aren’t just small wins.

They’re the moments where confidence begins.

Over time, those moments become resilience.

They become courage.

They become the belief that “I can.”

At Pedal for Good, we celebrate every small victory because we’ve learnt that big transformations are built one small step at a time.

🚲 Every ride is an opportunity to grow.

Tell us about a small win that made a big difference in your life.

✨ People often ask us what success looks like.

Is it completing a difficult trail?

Learning a new skill?

Riding further than before?

Those things matter.

But what excites us most is what happens after the ride is over.

The confidence a child takes back to school.

The courage they bring into new situations.

The belief that they can overcome challenges in other areas of life.

Those are the outcomes that stay with them long after they step off the bike.

Because while cycling may be the activity, the real goal has always been helping young people build brighter futures.

What lesson has sport taught you that still impacts your life today?

💛 People often see bicycles and assume we’re teaching children how to ride.

And yes, we do.

But that has never been the real goal.

The bicycle is simply the tool.

What we’re really building is confidence in a child who didn’t believe in themselves.

We’re building resilience in a young person learning how to overcome challenges.

We’re building leadership through teamwork, responsibility and perseverance.

Research consistently shows that skills such as resilience, emotional regulation, communication and problem-solving are among the strongest predictors of long-term educational, employment and life outcomes.

These are not cycling skills.

These are life skills.

Every time a child conquers a difficult climb, supports a teammate or discovers they are capable of more than they thought possible, they’re developing the qualities that will shape their future.

And when enough young people have access to those opportunities, we’re not just changing individual lives.

We’re helping build stronger schools, stronger communities and a stronger South Africa.

🚲 The bicycle is the vehicle.

🇿🇦 The destination is a better future.

If your organisation is passionate about investing in South Africa’s future, we’d love to start a conversation.
