Youth Day 2026 | Siyathemba Youth Centre

Hosted by Community Foundation of Liberty, SKEEMsaZER053 and lmvuzo consulting in partnership with Department of Sports arts and culture

June 16 reminded us why we gather.
Gamagara High School’s performance took us back to 1976, while 12 soccer teams + 8 netball teams showed what our youth can do today. Local DJs, artists & dancers kept the energy alive.

*Impact*: When we invest in our youth, Gamagara grows stronger. The Centre was full — community showed up to support, build pride, and keep the spirit of Youth Day alive.

Thank you to Gamagara Municipality, Dept of Sports, Arts & Culture for funding, Khumani Mine, and Anglo American Anglo American for sponsoring and making it possible. 🙏

Stepping where history was made 🇿🇦 Today we hiked Langberg Kev with Community Foundation of Liberty + Dept of Arts & Culture and . More than a climb - it was movement for our bodies, clarity for our minds, and roots for our spirits. Hiking boosted our stamina, cleared stress, and reminded us that strength lives in both muscle and memory.

Knowing the heritage of what happened here grounds us. When you walk the paths of those who came before, you carry their courage forward. This is just the build-up... 16 June loading 💚

Yesterday, Khumani Mine joined the Siyathemba Youth Centre, Community Foundation of Liberty Ambassadors, and management for an engagement on the rising GBV cases in our country.

As stated by the President, GBV is a pandemic that needs to be curbed. It can’t be fought in silence — people need to talk about it, act on it, and protect one another.

Khumani Mine led a training session with our Liberty Ambassadors so they can step up as GBV Ambassadors in the community. This partnership is our commitment to turning awareness into action.

Together we’re building a community where every voice matters and every person is safe.

2. Unite youth - Running side-by-side breaks barriers and builds teamwork
3. Inspire purpose - A healthy community is a productive community

Today the Community Foundation of Liberty hosted a vibrant Sarafina-themed dance competition at Siyathemba Youth Centre. Schools and groups from across Gamagara came together to honor the spirit of the South African uprising through movement and storytelling.

A big shoutout to:

1. Sisheng Intermediate School
2. Gamagara High School
3. Siyathemba Youth Dance Groups

The energy, creativity, and pride from every team was incredible. Congratulations to all the schools that took part and to those who came out on top — your preparation and passion showed!

Thank you to every dancer, teacher, and supporter who made today a success. You reminded us why investing in our youth matters.

Why dance competitions like this matter for youth:

1. Builds confidence & self-expression
Performing on stage helps young people find their voice and be proud of their talent, beyond just academics.

2. Teaches teamwork & discipline
Preparing for a competition means practice, coordination, and commitment. Those same skills carry over into school and life.

3. Connects them to history & identity
A Sarafina theme lets youth engage with South Africa’s struggle history in a creative way. They learn the story by living it, not just reading it.

4. Provides a positive outlet
Dance keeps youth engaged in constructive, community activities. It reduces idle time and builds a sense of belonging.

5. Strengthens community bonds
Events like this bring schools, families, and local groups together. Youth see that their community supports them.

Thank you to the Department of Sports ,arts and culture for the support and partnering

Today we hosted a boys mentor session with students from Sisheng Intermediate School at the Siyathemba youth Centre.

We had honest conversations about behavioural change and what it takes to make better choices daily. Proud of the young men who showed up, listened, and engaged.

More work ahead, but the conversations matter.

Education in Action at the Community Foundation of Liberty! 📚🔥

Today was a FULL HOUSE!

Our Grades 9 and 10 students showed up strong for an intensive Mathematics and Science session as part of our ongoing educational support program running from Grade 8 all the way to Grade 12.

The energy in the room was electric — pens moving, questions flying, and young minds pushing limits. This is what commitment looks like.

We’re proud to keep building momentum and giving our learners the tools, space, and support to aim higher every single week.

To our students: keep showing up. To our community: thank you for making this possible.

Community Engagement in Action at Siyathemba Youth Centre

Today, GCIS hosted an important information session at the September Youth Centre, in partnership with the Community Foundation of Liberty.

We were joined by key partners:
NYDA – National Youth Development Agency

R-CETA – Road Construction Education & Training Authority

IEC – Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa

Department of Justice

The session gave our youth direct access to these departments to learn about the programmes, opportunities, and support available to them.

Why this matters:

1. NYDA
shared how they fund youth programmes and youth-owned companies, opening doors for young entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses.

2. R-CETA
highlighted career and skills pathways in the construction sector, giving youth a clear route into employment and training.

3. IEC
encouraged youth to understand their voting rights and how to register and participate in democratic processes.

4. Department of Justice
spoke on access to justice and how young people can protect their rights and contribute to a fairer society.

This kind of engagement puts information directly in the hands of young people. When youth know what’s available and how to access it, they can turn opportunities into real change for themselves and their communities.

Thank you to GCIS, NYDA, R-CETA, IEC, and the Department of Justice for investing in our youth. And thank you to the Community Foundation of Liberty for hosting.
