If this is something you or your family part-take in but you also really care about the Earth then here 5 things you can do to GREEN you Halloween and that also brings more meaning and fun to this seasonal Celebration.

Just pick one if it sounds overwhelming 🙂

1. Make your own decorations and paraphernalia rather than lots of plastic stuff
2. Carve your own Pumpkin
3. Rent, make, or borrow costumes
4. Make treats rather than store-bought
5. Make your own treat carrier and also carry
Bonus tip: carry an Eco-brick sweet for rappers if there are any you come across, or generally pick up wrapper litter where you find it.

I like to collect ideas on how to do things in a folder in Pinterest, then I can refer and add to it year after year.

CAN WE DO BETTER?

Throughout the year we, us complex and colourful human beings, have many kinds of celebrations. No matter where we are from, that’s what we do and have always done for thousands upon thousands of years. This is a really beautiful and playful quality of ours, but as we have moved into these ‘modern’ times, consumerism and trend setting (and trend following) the deeper meaning and magic has been drained out of our celebrations. The result is that what we do in the name of ‘Celebrating’, whether it has meaning for us or is just good ol’ fun, has a negative impact on our Earth; The planet that is our life support and our children’s future.

You may have already begun eco-fying your celebrations, if so, good for you (and our dear Earth) or maybe you are just curious or getting started, I’m on this journey with you, so lets figure it out. It makes no sense to avoid or eliminate these fun filled festivities, all you need to do is bring one single question to the preparation and celebration of each event:

“How do I/we do this with as little Impact on the planet as possible”

One good 1st step to start from is to bring back the Meaning and Magic back into our celebrations.

So much of looking after our Earth isn't dependent on spending MORE money, it actually SAVES you money. Here are the 6 simple choices I've embraced over the last 20 years and I am not alone! This is massive world wide movement and is only growing! YAY for us and YAY for the Earth!
