On the 18th March 2026, at Simon’s Town Library, five STAG members helped a group from the Navy to discover their artistic abilities, while having fun.

Moira Keymer welcomed everybody and then Karin Davel gave them some tips on how to draw local fauna and flora. They were a responsive bunch full of ideas and energy, so they were soon surprising themselves with their ability! Marelise van Wyk, Lorraine Handel and Robin Hart helped and encouraged where needed. Really a positive, successful afternoon.

See for yourself how uplifting this project was - everybody went home feeling happy, with an ‘I Can!!’ attitude.

On 19th March the STAG meeting took place at one of the members, Karin Davel’s home - an opportunity to draw from life…little interesting objects, plants , far-off views and fellow artists.

At had his hands full to fit all the cars (17) in when the cars started to arrive…luckily we could also park on some of our neighbours’ property!

The weather held off to give us all a good time to be creative and chat when it came to snack-time…what a lovely spread of deliciousness, provided by all of us!

Thank you to all 20 people who turned up for the joyful event! Hopefully they will all bring their finished works to the next meeting to show everybody what enticed them to draw!

March’s challenge theme was TREASURE…and the members did not disappoint with their entries. Well done!

On the 19th Feb 2026 STAG members yet again enjoyed a challenging, yet satisfying meeting experience. Marelise van Wyk led the group in inspiring drawing exercises, based on her challenging charcoal workshop done under Diane Victor’s master eye! They loosened up by drawing with both hands simultaneously. Exciting end-results!

February’s Challenge theme was WATER…and wow, did we get out-of-the-box artworks!! Well done to everybody who took part.

The challenge wheel was spun - March’s Challenge theme will be ‘Treasures’…easy to get inspired by such a broad topic! Happy painting!!

Our first meeting of 2026 was a happy occasion. Members shared their art to show what inspired them to paint during the holidays …which was December’s art challenge theme!

Next month’s theme will be WATER!

STAG started the year with a lovely show and tell at the first monthly meeting. Members showed some of there latest work and we were inspired by the great variety that our group offers. Looking forward to a great 2026 with STAG.

We had our last outing of the year today - a number of us went by train from Fish Hoek station to Kalk Bay. A fun experience! We were glad that the wind had calmed down as well as the severe heat.

We met other artists that want to join STAG next year…which is good!

After some delicious sustenance from Olympia Café, we all split up to seek out the spot where each one wanted to be creative. Some chose Kalkies, others stayed put under the trees at Olympia…and Karin sat near Cape to Cuba to capture that part of Kalk Bay…and that is where she had a quick hello from Christine Scheid and James while they drove past. Quite a number of members were sorry that they couldn’t attend this cheerful outing! ‘Next time!!’

May the Christmas season be a blessed period of rest and goodwill. See you all in Jan 2026!

STAG’s creative year is almost at an end. Today (18/11/25) we held our year-end party at The Rotary club in Glencairn. Unfortunately many members couldn’t make it, but those who went, had a good time.

Stephanie de Haas was awarded thé prize for taking part in every Monthly Challenge…for making a beautiful new artwork for each themed challenge. Congratulations!!

We have still one ceative activity to be part of - on the 26th Nov we’ll take a train (@10) from Simon’s Town station to Kalk Bay station…to sample lovely snacks at Olympia Deli and then start drawing the attractions of Kalk Bay…and there’ll definitely be a show-and-tell afterwards! Sure it will be a great morning.

We might also finish the mural opposite Just Nuisance Square before Christmas! Watch that space!!

The theme challenge for Dec is to draw a local scene in Simon’s Town, Glencairn or Fish Hoek…any time during the holidays.

The first meeting next year will be on Thurs, 22nd Jan 2026, @ 5pm at the Simon’s Town library hall. Hope every one will enjoy a great holiday period!!
