What does a VMD contain? A Voter Management Device is more than just a tablet! It has different applications that help IEC officials manage the electoral process.

Voting stations may take different forms to ensure eligible voters can access the voting process. There are the four main categories.

1. PERMANENT VOTING STATION

A fixed, immovable structure used for voting, such as a school, church, or municipal building.

2. TEMPORARY VOTING STATION

A structure set up specifically for voting in areas where permanent facilities are not available, typically using tents.

3. MOBILE VOTING STATION

A voting station that moves between different areas within a voting district on Election Day, operating according to a set schedule between designated points.

4. VOTING CENTRE

A voting centre is another category of voting facility used for specific electoral purposes.

If you live in a local municipality, you will receive three ballot papers. If you live in a metro, you will have two ballot papers during the 2026 Local Government Elections.

Yellow Ballot
You vote for a political party to represent you on the District Council.

Grey and White Ballot
You vote for a person who is either from a political party or is an independent candidate to represent your ward on the Local Council.

You vote for a political party to represent you on the Local Council.

Yellow Ballot
