👜Handbags Full of Hope – A Thought of Caring 👜
SECUNDA – Instead of a pre-loved handbag that is no longer being used simply sitting in a cupboard, this Women's Month it can be given a new purpose — one that combines practical help with a message of hope.
The “Handbags Full of Hope” initiative is currently underway during August 2026, with the goal of collecting 100 handbags in good condition, filling them with essential personal-care items and distributing them to women in need in our community.
❤️ The Thought Behind the Initiative
Explaining the heart of the initiative, Janine van Wyk says it is about more than simply giving someone a handbag. The essential items inside are practical things that a woman can genuinely use, but the handbag also carries a simple and meaningful message:
“Someone thought of you.” ❤️
Behind every handbag is a person who took the time to choose something useful, put the items together and prepare the handbag especially for another woman.
It is not about how much is inside, but about the thought behind it — a small gesture that can remind a woman that she matters, that she is seen, and that someone took a moment to think of her.
Through Handbags Full of Hope, the aim is to provide something practical that women can use while also sharing a little kindness, dignity and hope within our community.
👜 What Can You Put Inside?
Each person who donates a clean, good-condition pre-loved handbag can include any four essential items of their choice.
The following are simply suggestions:
🩷 Sanitary pads
🧼 Soap
🧴 Body spray
🪥 Toothbrush and/or toothpaste
🧴 Hand cream
🪮 Hairbrush
🌸 Or any other essential personal-care item
You are not limited to the items listed above. Choose any four essential items that you feel another woman could use.
You are also welcome to add more than four items if you would like to.
🤝 Women Joining Hands
Janine van Wyk, Kragbron Radio presenter in Secunda and owner of Leopard All Things, Corlia Calitz from DraDitso, and Chantél Röttcher from Liefling Photography Studios, Mrs Curve SA finalist 2026, have joined hands to support the initiative.
The ladies are inviting other women, businesses and members of the community to join them and help reach the goal of 100 handbags.
🏢 Businesses Can Get Involved
Businesses are also invited to support the initiative by sponsoring essential items for the handbags.
Businesses can sponsor items such as sanitary pads, soap, body spray, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand cream, cream,hairbrushes or any other essential personal-care products.
Every contribution, big or small, can help us reach 100 handbags and make a meaningful difference.
