WEEKLY SAFETY SCOOP - Safety culture is built by the whole team — not only the safety officer.

DSF helps companies manage safety communication, training records, checklists, risk assessments and digital safety files in one easy system.

HOUSE CONSTRUCTION SAFETY SERIES – DAY 12

Construction of columns is a critical structural activity — it must be done with proper planning, correct reinforcement placement, secure formwork, controlled concrete work, and careful inspection.

Today’s DSF Safe Work Method Statement focuses on Construction of Columns as part of our House Construction from Start to Finish series.

This stage includes:

* Preparing the work area and column positions
* Checking reinforcement steel and starter bars
* Installing and securing column formwork
* Placing concrete safely
* Vibrating and compacting concrete correctly
* Checking alignment and stability
* Curing and protecting the column
* Inspecting and closing out the work area

Column construction can expose workers to falling objects, unstable formwork, working at height, manual handling injuries, concrete splashes, pinch points, and poor housekeeping if controls are not followed.

🏠 HOUSE CONSTRUCTION SAFETY SERIES – DAY 11

Bricklaying is more than stacking bricks — it needs safe access, correct material handling, stable work areas, proper mixing, and good housekeeping.

Today’s DSF Safe Work Method Statement focuses on Bricklaying as part of our House Construction from Start to Finish series.

This stage includes:

* Preparing the work area and materials
* Mixing mortar safely
* Setting out and laying bricks correctly
* Cutting and shaping bricks
* Building walls safely
* Jointing and finishing
* Cleaning as work progresses
* Inspecting and closing out the work area

Bricklaying can expose workers to dust, cement irritation, falling materials, unstable stacks, repetitive strain, cuts, trips, and unsafe access risks if controls are not followed.

🏠 HOUSE CONSTRUCTION SAFETY SERIES – DAY 10

Formwork stripping must be done in the correct sequence — removing supports too early or incorrectly can cause collapse, falling materials, serious injuries, and costly rework.

Today’s DSF Safe Work Method Statement focuses on Formwork Stripping as part of our House Construction from Start to Finish series.

This stage includes:

Planning and confirming the stripping sequence
Checking concrete strength before removal
Inspecting formwork, props, and supports
Removing loose items safely
Stripping panels and components correctly
Cleaning, sorting, and stacking materials
Inspecting the structure after stripping
Closing out the work area safely

Formwork stripping is a high-risk activity that must be supervised properly, with safe access, stable platforms, controlled material handling, and clear exclusion zones.

🏠 HOUSE CONSTRUCTION SAFETY SERIES – DAY 8

Strip footings are the base of the structure — and if they are not cast safely and correctly, the whole build is affected.

Today’s DSF Safe Work Method Statement focuses on Casting Strip Footings as part of our House Construction from Start to Finish series.

This stage includes important safety controls for:

* Preparing the footing area
* Checking formwork and reinforcement before the pour
* Safe handling and placing of concrete
* Controlling slips, trips, and manual handling risks
* Using tools and equipment safely
* Preventing concrete splashes and cement burns
* Cleaning up and closing out the work area properly

Casting strip footings may seem routine, but it comes with real risks if supervision, planning, PPE, and housekeeping are not in place.
