Hey friends,
We’re gearing up for another year of our Remedial Literacy Program at Witkoppen Primary in Fourways, Johannesburg! If you’re new here, this program is run by HOCA to support students who are struggling in class and need individual assistance. We also have a full-time Teacher Assistant at the school, helping students throughout the day.
Over the years, when people ask me how they can help, my answer is always the same: the biggest need is teachers and volunteers to help children learn to read and write. The teachers at Witkoppen are amazing, but with 50+ kids in a class, their ability to give focused attention to struggling learners is limited.
So, we’re going again this year! If you can invest just one hour a week to help a child learn to read, we’d love to have you join us as a volunteer. If you can’t volunteer but still want to make an impact, consider sponsoring a young aspiring teacher to work full-time as a Teaching Assistant.
