Meet Koketso Modisha, a CorpsAfricaSA Volunteer who facilitated a bullying awareness presentation themed “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully” at Mogopela Primary School, creating a space for learners to reflect, engage, and commit to building a more caring school environment.
Through an interactive session using visual tools like a shrunken paper heart to demonstrate the emotional impact of bullying, learners explored what bullying looks like, how it affects others, and why kindness, empathy, and respect matter. Learners actively participated by sharing their thoughts and experiences, showing a deep understanding of the issue.
As a powerful next step, Grade 7 learners signed a pledge banner committing to be buddies and positive leaders within their school. “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully” posters were also placed in every classroom, serving as daily reminders of the values they chose to stand for.
For Koketso, the experience was deeply moving. Seeing learners eager to promote positivity reaffirmed the belief that empowering young people with knowledge can create a ripple effect of kindness that reaches far beyond the classroom. The school principal echoed this, highlighting the importance of continuous education and support in nurturing a culture of empathy and understanding.

In Ga-Mokibelo Village, Polokwane, Limpopo, a simple idea grew into a powerful moment of access and possibility.

Meet Nontokozo Mhlongo, a CorpsAfricaSA Volunteer who facilitated a seven-day Learner’s License Training for community members, creating a space where knowledge, confidence, and opportunity could meet.
Over the course of the training, participants from Ga-Mokibelo and nearby villages gathered to learn about road rules, prepare for the learner’s test, and build confidence in driving theory. With the support of community leaders, the sessions became more than lessons. They became a supportive learning environment shaped by care, patience, and shared purpose.

For Nontokozo, the journey was just as meaningful. What began with nerves on the first day grew into confidence by the end of the week. Through facilitating the sessions and sharing her knowledge as a Code 10 license holder, she strengthened her public speaking and facilitation skills while witnessing firsthand how access to information can change lives.
The work continues, with plans underway to collaborate with a local driving school to explore funding opportunities for practical driving lessons.
This is what community-led change looks like.

Empowering Conversations & Practical Skills for Menstrual Health

CorpsAfrica Volunteers Thandiwe Zungu and Busisiwe Ngubane, based in Motsweding Village under the Greater Taung Local Municipality, co-facilitated a meaningful training that brought community members together to learn how to make reusable sanitary pads, how to care for them properly, and why menstrual health and hygiene matter.
Women openly shared how, growing up, menstrual health was rarely discussed and often treated as a taboo topic. This session created a safe space for learning, dialogue, and healing.
During the session, they highlighted how access to sanitary products plays a critical role in keeping girls in school, while supporting their dignity, confidence, and overall wellbeing.

Small actions, powerful impact.
