This visit was more than a ceremonial moment. It was a reminder that early childhood development is a shared African priority.

As part of Kenya’s State Visit to South Africa, our Patron, Dr Tshepo Motsepe, welcomed Mrs Rachel Ruto to Funda Montessori ECD Academy in Mamelodi. Together, they witnessed the work being done to give young children access to safe, nurturing and quality early learning.

When leaders place children at the centre of the conversation, they help build stronger families, stronger communities and a stronger future for Africa.

Her story, in her own words.

From running a centre with limited resources to building a safe, compliant space for children to learn and grow — Tebogo Mphela’s journey is one of resilience, commitment, and care.

With support from the Early Care Foundation and funding from the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), Depetlwane Day Care Centre has been transformed into a space fit for the future of its children.

The Early Care Foundation held an Inclusion workshop and child protection and prevention against child abuse workshop held at Special Me Centre in PE during Autism Awareness Month provided an important opportunity to empower both staff and caregivers with the knowledge and skills needed to support children with diverse disabilities and those on the autism spectrum. The workshops focused on creating an inclusive, safe, and nurturing environment where every child is respected, valued, and protected. Participants explored practical ways to promote inclusion, recognise signs of abuse, understand children’s rights, and respond appropriately to concerns, ensuring that all children at Special Me are cared for with dignity, compassion, and understanding.
