Our mission is to tackle challenges like period poverty, GBV, inequality, by providing resources and support that educate, uplift, and empower women. We are a South African NPO addressing the most recurring problems faced by our local communities in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Knysna, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. Food shortage, reprieve from the cold in winter, trauma relief, period poverty and equal
treatment of women are only a few of our many initiatives. Our goal is to provide support in these areas and significantly improve the quality of life and sense of hope in our communities. KLC is a registered NPO from 3 May 2017, and as a PBO in February 2019. We run six core projects:
1. Collecting and distributing menstrual products for girls and young women in need (see ‘The Pad Princess’ page; this is our flagship project).
2. Feed The Hungry: Serving Our Underprivileged People. Please support our food drive initiatives; so many people are struggling to put food on the table. We support many local soup kitchens by cooking and serving a nutritious meal. When funds allow, we make up food hampers for distribution to the hungry. You are welcome to volunteer to cook and/or serve. Grocery and cash donations welcome.
3. The Joseph Jersey Project, a knitting and crocheting project for babies, children, homeless, adults and the elderly.
4. The Dignity Bag Project for women, men and children who've experienced trauma, r**e or abuse. These bags are filled with essential items to bring some comfort at a stress-filled time.
5. Project Uplift where we aim to uplift and empower women by collecting bras and underwear for those who don't have their own.
6. Animal Action where we collect pet food, blankets, collars, leads etc. for SPCAs and other animal rescue organisations in our area. In addition to these projects, we run special projects in the spirit of kindness which target different community needs. We have branches in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Knysna and Pretoria; see Kindness like Confetti JHB, PE, CPT Kynsna, and PTA pages.
