Team Spotlight: Chef Pinky

Chef Pinky has a gift for showing what rescued food can become. Through her recipes and cooking demonstrations, she shares practical ways to make nutritious meals with the ingredients available. Her creativity, warmth, and laughter make people feel welcome in the kitchen.

Soon, she’ll bring that energy to our new facility, which will become a home for Cooking for a Cause. Pinky will cook alongside corporate teams as they prepare meals for communities across South Africa, turning time spent together into something useful beyond the kitchen.

The facility will also support training in food preparation, kitchen operations, and food management, helping beneficiaries build practical skills and expand their food knowledge. We’re excited to see Pinky help bring this next chapter to life.

Meet Josey, our Cape Town Junior Warehouse Manager and the much-loved Princess of SA Harvest.

You will often hear Josey before you see her. Her wonderfully loud voice, infectious energy, and brilliant sense of humour keep us laughing and bring life to the warehouse every day.

Behind her vibrant personality is an incredibly kind and dedicated team member. Josey helps keep our warehouse operations running smoothly, ensuring rescued food is handled safely, efficiently and with care.

She works hard, lifts the people around her, and never misses an opportunity to make someone smile. SA Harvest simply would not be the same without her energy, warmth, and larger-than-life personality.

A key takeaway from our discussion with Daily Maverick was that meaningful progress requires more than leadership commitment. Addressing food loss and waste takes participation at every level of an organisation and across the value chain. When people understand why it matters and take ownership of the process, it becomes part of the culture rather than just another initiative.

🥒 Pickling is a great way to make fresh produce last longer. By turning cucumbers into pickles, we can reduce food waste, extend shelf life, and create a versatile ingredient that can be enjoyed for weeks to come.

We’re proud that the cucumbers donated by Boerdery will reach our beneficiary organisations, where they can be enjoyed fresh in salads, added to meals, or even preserved through pickling. Every cucumber rescued is another opportunity to make nutritious food go further and ensure good food doesn’t go to waste.
