The Collen Mashawana Foundation team today visited Rock of Ages Trust in Melfort, Goromonzi, Zimbabwe, a faith-based community organisation dedicated to supporting vulnerable children.

Founded by Pastor Junior Gwenhe, the organisation has spent the past 18 years transforming lives through education, shelter, pastoral care, food security, skills development, and sustainable livelihood programmes, impacting more than 1,000 children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Following an assessment of the centre and the children’s living conditions, the Collen Mashawana Foundation committed to supporting the institution going forward and donated food supplies and toys to the children.

The Themba Mliswa Foundation, led by Hon. Themba Mliswa, also pledged support by assisting with compliance and government engagement processes, and committed to sponsoring beds for the children.

Speaking during the visit, Dr Collen Mashawana highlighted the importance of African unity, compassion, and collective action in the fight against poverty, emphasizing the need to work together to create lasting change for vulnerable children and communities.

He also called on government to prioritise subsidised housing for the elderly, child-headed households, and people living with disabilities, while suggesting that younger beneficiaries should be allocated land to build their own homes.

The Collen Mashawana Foundation (CMF), led by Dr Collen Mashawana, visited the Sonskynhoekie Informal Settlement north of Pretoria, home to 141 families, most of whom are unemployed and rely on donations for survival.

During the visit, the foundation donated mattresses, blankets, clothing, food parcels and toys for children. After engaging with residents and witnessing their living conditions, Dr Mashawana also committed to donating two homes and solar panels to support vulnerable families in the community.

Dr Mashawana reaffirmed that poverty affects people from all backgrounds and that every South African deserves dignity, hope and support. The foundation remains committed to uplifting vulnerable communities through meaningful and sustainable interventions.

A family of 16 from Sonskynhoekie, Grootvlei, north of Pretoria, has reached out to the Collen Mashawana Foundation (CMF) for assistance after being forced to live in unsafe and overcrowded conditions.

The family, headed by 56-year-olds Ms Gerda Du Plessis and Mr Boêty Viljoen, lives with their children and grandchildren in a severely distressed home that is no longer fit for safe human habitation. The structure is visibly deteriorating, with damaged fencing, unsecured windows and limited living space unable to adequately accommodate the large household.

The overcrowded living conditions have affected the family’s privacy, dignity, health and overall well-being, while poor infrastructure and harsh living conditions in the area continue to worsen their vulnerability.
