On 27 February, we celebrate World NGO Day!

World NGO Day is observed annually to recognize and celebrate the incredible contributions of non-governmental and non-profit organizations across the globe. 💙

Officially recognized in 2010 following a proposal by Marcis Skadmanis, this global awareness day honors the impact NGOs have in addressing humanitarian, environmental, and social challenges — while encouraging collaboration between NGOs, governments, businesses, and communities to build a more sustainable and inclusive world.

Today, World NGO Day is celebrated in 145+ countries and is recognized by the European Union, governments, organizations, and communities worldwide. 🌎

This year, let’s celebrate the people and organizations working tirelessly to shape a better future. 🙌

🐢🌊 Did you know?

Loggerhead and leatherback turtles nest along the KwaZulu-Natal coast in iSimangaliso Wetland Park from November to March. Their tiny hatchlings emerge about 60–70 days later, usually at night, between December and March — a truly magical natural event. ✨

Turtles first appeared in the fossil record hundreds of millions of years ago, long before most other reptiles like snakes and crocodiles. They belong to the superfamily Chelonioidea within the order Testudines, which also includes tortoises, terrapins, and freshwater turtles.

There are only seven sea turtle species on Earth. Five of them visit South African waters — and sadly, all five are listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. 💔
