🙌 From Mess to Clean: A Massive Thank You! 🙌

Following up on this morning’s post regarding the litter left behind at the Uvongo Town Hall—we have some fantastic news. The area has been cleaned up!

While we don't know exactly who stepped up to tackle the mess—whether it was a swift response from the event organisers, municipal workers, or proactive community members—we want to extend a massive THANK YOU for taking action and taking care of our town.

This is exactly what community is all about. When things don't go according to plan, individuals stepping up to fix it is what keeps us moving forward. Imagine what we could achieve if that same energy is brought during events, where organisers, school children, and departments all work hand-in-hand to ensure no mess is made in the first place!

Working together means looking out for our shared spaces. Thank you again to the unknown team who did the heavy lifting today—your hard work is incredibly appreciated! Let’s keep this momentum going and continue to keep our South Coast clean and proud. 🇿🇦✨

🚯 Education Starts with Respect for Our Environment 🚯

Yesterday, 20 May, our beautiful community hosted an event for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education, Sports and Culture. This morning, 21 May, this is what the Uvongo Town Hall parking area looked like.

Events like these are incredible opportunities for our youth to showcase talent, build community, and learn valuable life skills. However, one crucial lesson was left behind in the litter: civic pride and environmental responsibility.

When government departments, schools, and cultural organisers host functions, they hold a powerful position to educate and guide the next generation. Leaving a space in this condition sends the wrong message to the school children involved. It tells them that someone else will always clean up after them.

We need to teach our children that being a good student, athlete, or citizen doesn't stop when the whistle blows or the curtains close. It includes:

Pack it in, pack it out: Taking responsibility for your own waste.

Respecting community spaces: Leaving venues better than we found them.

Leading by example: Organisers must provide adequate waste management and ensure the venue is cleared post-event.

Let’s use this as a teaching moment. We love hosting regional events, but we love our towns more. Let’s work together to keep KwaZulu-Natal clean, tidy, and proud.
