MEN OF HONOUR DECLARES WAR AGAINST THE PANDEMIC OF GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
The Men of Honour Movement is deeply angered and gravely concerned by the continued escalation of violence against women and children in Rustenburg and across our country.
Every day, families are being torn apart. Every day, women are subjected to abuse, assault, and murder. Every day, children are robbed of their innocence and security. This is not merely a crime crisis, it is a national pandemic. Gender-Based Violence has become one of the greatest threats to the safety, dignity, and future of our communities.
The horrific incident that reportedly occurred in Tlhabane yesterday, where a young woman lost her life at the hands of someone who was expected to love and protect her, has once again reminded us that our communities are under siege. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and call for justice to be served swiftly and decisively.
As Men of Honour, we refuse to remain silent while women and children continue to be hunted, abused, violated, and murdered. Silence is complicity. Indifference is betrayal.
We therefore issue an unequivocal call to all law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and crime intelligence structures to direct every available resource towards combating Gender-Based Violence.
We call for:
• The prioritisation of GBV cases at all police stations.
• The establishment and strengthening of specialised investigative units dedicated to GBV-related crimes.
• The deployment of additional detectives and investigative resources to ensure speedy arrests and successful prosecutions.
• Enhanced intelligence gathering to identify repeat offenders and individuals who pose a threat to women and children.
• Zero tolerance for negligence, incompetence, or delays in handling GBV cases.
• Harsher consequences for perpetrators who continue to terrorise our communities.
We cannot continue to treat Gender-Based Violence as a secondary policing matter while women are being killed in their homes, on our streets, and in places where they should feel safe.
The Men of Honour Movement believes that the time has come for government, law enforcement agencies, civil society, faith-based organisations, traditional leaders, and communities to unite behind a single objective: the eradication of Gender-Based Violence.
We further call upon the men of Rustenburg to rise and reject the culture of violence that has brought shame and devastation to our communities.
We refuse to accept a society where women live in fear and where children grow up believing violence is normal. We refuse to normalise funerals that could have been prevented. We refuse to allow another generation to be sacrificed to the brutality of criminals masquerading as men.
Enough is enough.
The bloodshed must stop.
The violence must end.
And justice must prevail.
