What are Occupational Qualifications?

Occupational Qualifications are nationally accredited credentials that formally recognize your professional skills, knowledge, and on-the-job competence.

Developed by industry experts and aligned with real-world workplace standards, these qualifications ensure that your learning is not only theoretical, but practical and directly applicable in your field.

Accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and aligned with the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), occupational qualifications are designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to perform specific jobs effectively.

They include both theoretical learning and structured workplace experience. They serve as a bridge between hands-on experience and formal education—giving you the credibility and structure needed to advance your career.

Why they Matter for Your Career?

• Gain Formal Recognition of your professional competence and experience
• Earn Industry-Recognized Designations that validate your status and skills
• Boost Your Credibility with employers, clients, and industry peers
• Unlock Higher-Level Roles and better career opportunities
• Stand Out in competitive job markets with nationally endorsed qualifications

Karabo Training Academy 10yrs History

Karabo Training Academy was established in September 2016 as Work Readiness Skills Centre which was not Accredited at inception.

Our objectives at that time was to offer Non-Accredited Job Entry Skills to individuals who couldn’t afford Higher Education and Training but, needed Job Entry Skills and have a certificate to show that they have the knowledge and skills to execute the tasks.

Karabo Training Academy started its operation in Krugersdorp and later opened another centre in Rustenburg in 2017 then we started with Outreach Community Skills Programme in the following areas from 2018 (Kuruman, Kathu, Kimberly, Klerksdorp, Coligny, Daveyton, Hammanskraal, Barberton) to date.

We started in 2016 by offering Non- Accredited Work Readiness Skills programme such as Call Centre training, and gradually grown our offering list by adding Office Administration, Hospitality: Receptionist and Basic Computer etc.

In 2019 we then signed and MoU with YAB Business Solutions and we started hosting some of their Courses at our Rustenburg and Krugersdorp Centre (Krugersdorp Centre was then later closed as the demand was low) and We started to use Aligned Training Material ( from YAB) to offer programme and Karabo Training Academy would offer Certificate of Completion (an equivalent of a Certificate of Attendance)as the courses were always being advertised as Non-Accredited Work Readiness Skills Programme.

In 2021/22 Karabo Training Academy then received Services Seta Accreditation under the New Venture Creation Qualification and due to lack of capacity we continued to Offer Non-Accredited Courses due to the Target Market we dominated and also due to the lack of understanding on How and Why Accredited Skills Programmes and Qualifications were Delivered and their importance.

In 2024 Karabo Training Academy was then introduced to the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) where the importance of Accreditation and Occupational Qualification, we then applied for couple of qualification and then EMBRACED the Accredited Skills Development Space and also through the QCTO SDP Capacity Building Workshops/Training, we got the relevant capacity in the Administration, Training and Quality Assurance an SDP requires in running Accredited Occupational Qualification/Skills Programmes and since the beginning of 2026, we are COMMITTED in offering Accredited Occupational Qualifications as per the requirements and guidelines of the QCTO.

We have a dedicated Administration Team and Freelance Facilitators that are embedded with the QCTO Training and delivery process and policies to make sure that we continue to offer Quality and Accredited Skills Programmes.

We no longer offer Non-Accredited Programme as per the knowledge received through various Training and Engagement Channels since 2026 and also understanding the Policies of the QCTO and its Occupational Qualifications/Skills Programmes/Part-Qualifications.

We have embraced on a new CULTURE of producing Qualified and Capable Students that will enter the Workplace with an Accredited Qualification/Certificate and Skills that has underwent the QCTO’s Training/ Delivery Model of Theory Classes, Practical Classes and Workplace Exposure Programme to enable that all Training and Learning Matrix produces a well aligned workplace candidate.

The journey we have taken from inception in 2016 to date, have taught us a valuable lesson that managed to expose us to various stages of being a stakeholder in the Skills Development Arena in both the Non-Accredited Route (Mis-informed process due to lack of understanding and Misconception) to the Accredited Training Route(Offering Quality and Credible Training).

We still have a long way to learn and grow as an institution that is learning to navigate the Accredited Space and also willing to be a key CREDIBLE Stakeholder and never repeat the past mistakes learned in the past years of operation. We have came to the realization of accepting that in our Skills Development journey we were not perfect and MISTAKES were made while also VALUABLE lessons were learned, hence we are a PROUD as an QCTO ACCREDITED Institution.

Our Past Mistake Remedial Programme

We are offering a Remedial Programme to all our past students who would like to acquire Accredited QCTO Occupational Qualifications on courses we offering, They can contact us and we will are willing to offer them up to 50% discount in any course of their choice to make sure that they replace the Non-Accredited Certificated we issued in the past years to Accredited QCTO Occupational Certificates (NB: Note that Students will have to attend both Practical and Workplace Modules in person and also can study Theory Modules via our Online Self Study Platform) . They will also need to undergo EISA Exams.

Registration and Learning Terms and Conditions Applies as per our policies.
