We Are Minds (333-967 NPO) invites individuals, businesses, and community stakeholders to partner with us through donations and sponsorship support for our upcoming Men's Mental Wellness Day initiative.

This event aims to create a comfortable and empowering environment where men can engage in meaningful conversations around mental wellness, emotional wellbeing, personal growth, and healing. We are seeking support in the form of food catering, refreshments, stationery, wellness resources, event materials, and financial contributions to assist in delivering a successful and impactful experience.

Your support will contribute directly to creating a platform that promotes mental wellness awareness, strengthens community engagement, and restores hope among men who often face challenges in silence.

Every contribution, regardless of size, plays a valuable role in helping us make a lasting impact.

ReNewing Minds. ReStoring Hope.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

1. Healthy Emotional Expression
A mentally healthy man can recognize and express emotions without feeling that vulnerability makes him weak. He may not share everything with everyone, but he can communicate what he feels in healthy ways.

2. Managing Stress Well
Stress is part of life, but good mental health helps a man respond rather than react. He can handle pressure, solve problems, and find healthy ways to release tension.

3. Strong Relationships
Good mental health often shows in the ability to build meaningful relationships. Healthy connections create support, trust, and a sense of belonging.

4. Healthy Boundaries
Setting boundaries means understanding personal limits. It is being able to protect time, energy, and emotional wellbeing without guilt.

5. Sense of Purpose
Having a purpose gives direction. Whether through work, family, faith, community, or personal goals, purpose can create motivation and meaning.

6. Adapts to Challenges
Life throws curveballs without sending invitations. Good mental health helps a man adjust, learn, and continue moving forward after setbacks.

7. Healthy Sleep and Energy Levels
Rest affects mood, focus, and emotional wellbeing. Consistent sleep patterns often support better mental and emotional functioning.

8. Makes Balanced Decisions
Good mental health supports thoughtful decision-making. Choices are less likely to be driven only by anger, fear, or pressure.

9. Comfortable Asking for Help
Seeking help is a sign of awareness, not weakness. Knowing when support is needed shows emotional maturity and self-understanding.

10. Self-Awareness
A mentally healthy man understands his emotions, strengths, triggers, and areas where growth is needed. Self-awareness becomes an internal compass.

11. Takes Care of Physical Health
Mental and physical health often move together like two wheels on the same bicycle. Exercise, nutrition, hydration, and rest can support emotional wellbeing.

12. Enjoys Activities and Hobbies
Making time for activities that bring joy can improve mood and reduce stress. Enjoyment creates breathing space in daily life.

13. Healthy Confidence
Healthy confidence is not arrogance. It is feeling secure in who you are without constantly
needing approval from others.

14. Recovers From Disappointments
Difficult moments happen. Good mental health allows a man to process setbacks, learn from them, and rebuild over time.

15. Feels Connected Rather Than Isolated
Human beings are wired for connection. Feeling supported and connected can improve wellbeing and reduce loneliness.

What is a Learnership?
A learnership is a structured journey where you’re employed for a fixed period, you earn a stipend, you get trained in a real workplace, and you study toward a qualification connected to that job.

It’s not just training.
It’s not just school.
It’s not just work.
It’s all three combined.

How does a learnership work?
It depends on the type of learnership and the training provider, but usually the program is structured in this way:
- Most of the time is spent at work (practical experience)
- A smaller portion is spent in classes or training sessions

A common setup is:
-70% practical/workplace learning
- 30% classroom/theory learning

You may spend 3–5 days at work
Then attend classes on certain days, weeks, or blocks during the month
Some learnerships do:
Weekly classes (for example every Friday)
Others do block training, where you attend classes for 1–2 weeks at a time and then return to work

Example:
If you’re in a retail learnership:
Most days you’ll be working in the store helping customers, learning stock control, tills, etc.
Then you’ll attend training sessions to learn the theory behind customer service, business communication, and retail operations

The idea is:
Learn the theory → apply it practically → return to class with real experience.

Learnerships are helpful for people who learn better by doing, not only sitting in class all day.

Why do learnership exist?
Learnerships were created in South Africa to help young people gain skills, experience, and qualifications so they can enter the job market with confidence.
They are overseen by SETAs to make sure the training is real, structured, and recognised.

- You gain real work experience
- You earn a stipend while learningYou get a recognised qualification
- You become more employable
- You build confidence and professional habits
- You can sometimes be offered a permanent job after completing it

If you’re in a learnership right now, show up fully.
Use every shift, every class, every task to build yourself.
This is your chance to grow your confidence, your skills, and your future.

Empower your learnership cohorts with the emotional intelligence, resilience, and workplace readiness they need to thrive.
Partner with me to deliver specialised Mental Wellness Facilitation and Coaching designed to strengthen performance, behaviour, and engagement across your programme.

Mental health and faith are not enemies.

Too many people suffer silently in church spaces because emotional struggles are treated like weakness, sin, or lack of faith. But struggling mentally does not make someone less spiritual.

People need comfortable spaces. People need compassion. People need community. People need support.
Prayer matters. Faith matters. But listening matters too.

The church has the power to become a place of healing instead of silence — where people are allowed to say: “I’m not okay.”

The church has the power to become a place of healing instead of silence — where people are allowed to say: “I’m not okay.” and not fear being judged or told about demons and lack of faith.

Many have left churches because churches choose to be blind to the reality that is Mental Health, throwing justifications like "pray harder" "God is testing your faith" "There's no use for medication" just to discredit the topic even before it begins.

Many men are not using substances because they want to destroy their lives. Many are trying to silence pain they never learned how to express.
Substance use disorders can involve alcohol, cannabis, prescription medication misuse, co***ne, ni****ne, opioids, and other substances.

What may begin as "stress relief," "weekend fun," or "just coping" can gradually become dependence.

Behind substance use there is often something deeper:
• depression
• anxiety
• trauma
• grief
• loneliness
• financial pressure
• emotional pain
• unresolved experiences

Many men were taught:
"Be strong."
"Handle it alone."
"Don't talk about it."
So instead of processing emotions, some end up burying them.

Healing starts when judgment ends and support begins. Men need comfortable spaces, conversations, understanding, and access to help without shame.

To every man fighting battles quietly: asking for help is not weakness. Recovery is possible, and your story does not end with your struggle.

What About The Boys ll
Today was more than just a movie outing — it was a moment of truth, reflection, and real conversation for our boys. Thank you to Primestars for creating a film that doesn’t shy away from the realities young boys face every day. From addiction to peer pressure, identity struggles to emotional silence, this movie speaks directly to their lived experiences. It’s real, it’s relatable, and it’s exactly the kind of content our boys connect with because it mirrors their world.

In a society where boys are often expected to “man up,” stay quiet, or hide their emotions, programmes like this matter. They give boys permission to feel, to express, to question, and to understand their worth beyond society’s hypocritical standards. Too often, the boy child starts on a minus — overlooked, misunderstood, or told to toughen up instead of being supported.

Primestars is filling that gap. They’re creating spaces where boys can see themselves, learn, grow, and feel valued. And that is powerful.

A big thank you to and for hosting us and giving our boys a comfortable space to learn, laugh, and reflect. These moments shape them. These experiences build them. And today, they walked out a little more aware, a little more confident, and a lot more seen.

And a big thank you to National Mentorship Movement for trusting me with fragile hearts and minds.

Some men are not angry.
They are hurt.
Some are not “cold.”
They are emotionally exhausted.
Some are not avoiding people because they do not care.
They are surviving battles nobody can see.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in men is real, and many men are walking around carrying trauma silently while trying to still be fathers, partners, brothers, providers, and leaders.

PTSD can be created by:
childhood trauma
absent fathers
abuse
violence
crime
hijackings
losing loved ones
toxic relationships
accidents
community violence
financial pressure
emotional neglect
growing up constantly in survival mode

Many men were taught:
“Be strong.”
“Don’t cry.”
“Handle it yourself.”
So instead of expressing pain, trauma often shows up as:
anger
emotional shutdown
isolation
overworking
alcohol abuse
trust issues
aggression
numbness
constant stress
feeling emotionally disconnected

Some men do not even realize they are traumatized because pain became normal so early in life.
A man can smile publicly while mentally drowning privately.

Healing starts when men are finally allowed to speak without shame, judgment, or pressure to “man up.”

To every man carrying silent pain: You are not weak for struggling.
You are human.
And you deserve support, healing, peace, and safe spaces too.

Trauma may be part of your story, but it does not have to become your identity.
Survival kept you alive.
Healing will help you live.

It is not about you! Do and be right for your kids.
