Joshua's Journey

Joshua's Journey In July 2015 Joshua (11 years old) has been diagnosed with a very rare form of bone cancer. Joshua is a very ambitious 11-year-old boy with a passion for life.

In July 2015, after several visits to the physio-therapists and doctors, he was treated with a very rare form of bone cancer, called Ewing’s Sarcoma. In the USA the statistics for this cancer is 2.1 out of every 1,000,000 children or adolescents. Ewing’s Sarcoma occurs very rarely in adults over the age of 30. The family is receiving a lot of financial, emotional and physical support from family,

friends and even strangers. A need has been identified to make the community more aware of children’s cancer as well as to assist the family directly. The immediate need is to teach the community things like what the difference is between blood and blood platelets, which blood types can donate platelets as well as the function of the white blood cells.

Update on Nico’s Fight Against Ewing’s Sarcoma

Nico’s latest prognosis from his doctor at Bara is not good. He has been given a 20% chance that chemotherapy will work, and the treatment itself would be extremely harsh on his already weakened body. The family was given the choice to proceed with conventional chemotherapy but decided against it.

Instead, they have chosen an alternative approach called Insulin Potentiation Therapy (IPT). This is a milder form of chemotherapy with fewer severe side effects and less impact on his immune system. While the prognosis remains the same, this treatment aims to improve his quality of life.

Nico will start his first round of treatment tomorrow. It’s an eight-week programme, with four-day cycles each week—two days of chemotherapy and two days of supportive therapy. The family will assess its effectiveness over time and decide on the next steps.

Now, more than ever, the family needs support, and the BackaBuddy campaign is running to help them through this challenging time. Any contributions would be deeply appreciated.

Dear supporters,

More than six years ago, Joshua’s voice fell silent, but his legacy of love, courage, and hope continues to inspire us all. This page has been a space to honour his memory, but today, for the first time, we are sharing the story of another young fighter who needs our support.

Nico, a young man who should be celebrating his high school graduation and planning his future, has instead been diagnosed with Metastatic Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer. At a time when he should be stepping into the next chapter of his life, Nico is now in the toughest battle he will ever face.

With Joshua’s mum’s blessing, we are sharing Nico’s story and the BackaBuddy campaign that has been set up to help him and his family. This community gave us so much strength and comfort during our journey, and we hope you can do the same for Nico.

Whether you can contribute or simply share his fundraiser, your support will mean the world to Nico and his family as they face this challenge.
