This week, our ๐‚๐ฅ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐Œ๐š๐ฆ๐š ๐€๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐ค๐š ๐Œ๐š๐ฆ๐š๐ฌ had the privilege of participating in a ๐‡๐š๐ญ ๐Œ๐š๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  ๐‚๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž in collaboration with the S A School of Hat making South African School of Hat Making at the beautiful Pure Joy Guest Lodge in Kameeldrift, Gauteng.

Hat making was identified as a skill with tremendous potential - creating opportunities for ๐ข๐ง๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž generation, ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐ž๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ, ๐ฌ๐ค๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ฌ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ซ, and ๐œ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐ž๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง within their communities. As always, the goal is not only to learn a skill, but to earn from it and teach it to others.

A special moment in the video is ๐Œ๐š๐ฆ๐š ๐€๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ž from Lejwe La Thuso Foundation in Soweto, sharing the ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐œ๐ญ this training is having, not only on the Mamas themselves, but also on the beneficiaries they ๐™ช๐™ฅ๐™ก๐™ž๐™›๐™ฉ daily in their communities. At her sewing centre in George, Western Cape, ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ข๐™– ๐™‰๐™ค๐™ข๐™จ๐™– ๐™•๐™ž๐™ข๐™š๐™ข๐š and her family worked tirelessly to create beautiful garments for a special church achievements celebration known as Umbongo.

Together, they made:

Our Beginners Sewing Course is currently in Module 3: Dressmaking, and what a journey itโ€™s been already.

In this video, we share more about how this 6-month programme is not just about learning a skill, but about building confidence, independence, and pride in the skill each trainee acquires.

We are especially proud to have Bernina RSA as our first Partner in Care, supporting this journey for over 25 years. Their commitment continues to change lives through skills development.

From mastering stretch fabrics to designing their own garments, each piece tells a story of perseverance and pride. But what truly stood out was the spirit of collaboration โ€” two of our trainees even partnered by sharing fabric, turning creativity into something uniquely beautiful. ๐Ÿ’š
