NIGERIA IS FAILING ITS WOMEN — AND NOBODY WANTS TO ADMIT IT.

What does it really mean to be a woman in Nigeria today?

On this powerful episode of The AfriOne Show, I sit down with Barrister Sheila Gbogidi for a candid conversation about the realities Nigerian women face—from cultural expectations and marriage to career, leadership, economic independence, discrimination, safety and the pressure to constantly prove themselves.

But this conversation goes beyond identifying the problems. We ask the harder question: What must change for Nigerian women to truly thrive—and what responsibility do women, men, families, institutions and government have in making that change happen?

This is not a battle between men and women. It is a conversation about building a Nigeria where everyone has the opportunity to contribute, succeed and live with dignity.

August is Women's Month, and I want to share something that has been on my heart.

One of the greatest challenges I see in our society is what I call the "arrival mentality." The moment some people become successful or influential, they begin to lose the warmth, humility, and gratitude that once defined them. They forget the very people God used to encourage, support, and elevate them.

The Apostle Paul showed us a different way.

In Romans 16, he dedicated an entire chapter to greeting and honoring people who had impacted his life and ministry. He did not consider himself "too important" to acknowledge others. Even more remarkable, the very first person he mentioned was Phoebe, a woman. In a culture where women were often overlooked, Paul intentionally recognized her contribution. He also honored Priscilla and many other women by name. That was revolutionary.

One thing I have consistently noticed throughout Scripture is this: God accomplishes His purposes through relationships. Even the enemy understands the power of relationships and works hard to divide people.

To every woman reading this:

Never allow anyone to make you feel that you are insignificant in God's plan. Your value was established by God Himself. When He saw that it was not good for man to be alone, He created woman—not as an afterthought, but as an essential partner in His purpose. God often uses what already exists to create what many believe is impossible.

As we enter August, let us all become more intentional.

Learn to greet people. Don't walk into a room expecting everyone to greet you first. It costs nothing to say, "Hello." Kindness never diminishes your value. If others don't greet you, greet them anyway and move on with grace.

To the women: position yourselves. Get involved. Serve. Lead. Build. Speak. Mary and Martha positioned themselves in the life of Jesus. Priscilla and Aquila became one of the most influential missionary couples of the first century. God uses people who make themselves available.

This Women's Month, let us intentionally celebrate the value women bring to our homes, communities, businesses, churches, governments, and nations. Let us challenge cultural systems that have silenced women, especially across Africa and particularly in Nigeria. Women's voices belong not only in the kitchen or serving tables—but at the decision-making table.

Nigeria is loud… markets are busy…
People are hustling… businesses are opening…
Churches and mosques are full… social media is active…

But behind all of this noise — something quiet is happening.

People are not living… they are coping.
People are not growing… they are managing.
People are not building wealth… they are surviving.

Salary finishes before the month ends…
Transport cost keeps rising…
Food prices are changing weekly…
Rent is going up…
School fees are increasing…
Businesses are closing…

And yet… we say… “We thank God, we are managing.”

We wake up early, work all day, hustle everywhere — yet nothing changes.
Salary finishes before the month ends.
Businesses open today and close tomorrow.
Graduates become riders.
Professionals become traders.
Parents withdraw children from schools.
Dreams are being postponed… indefinitely.
And yet — we celebrate survival like it is success.
When did survival become the national ambition?

When did managing become the new prosperity?
When did struggling become normal?

Tonight, we ask:
Is Nigeria poor — or are Nigerians trapped in a survival cycle?

This Is All It Takes to Buy 4 More Years of Our Future…

They’ve done their negotiations in foreign rooms.
They’ve secured alliances with political elites.
Now, they return home—not with solutions—but with handouts.

And sadly… it works.

Before we judge Nigerians who collect these things, let’s face the truth:

1. Poverty has been weaponized.
2. Desperation is no longer hidden—it is daily reality.
3. They understand the mindset of a struggling population.
4. What is given may only last 2–3 days… but hunger doesn’t negotiate.
5. “Stomach infrastructure” has become a survival mechanism, not a choice.
6. Many of us have checked out—JAPA has become an escape plan.
7. Sacrifice for the nation is fading, because survival comes first.

I say this not from theory—but from experience.

Through my work on radio, I hear it every day:
The pain. The frustration. The fear. The hopelessness.

Nigeria is bleeding quietly.

And the truth is—if not for the systems and structure around me, I too might have left.

So don’t be quick to blame the average Nigerian who sells their vote.
It is harder than it looks to stand strong when survival is on the line.

But Here’s the Turning Point

If the system is designed to exploit the people…
Then we must build a system that empowers them.

That is why we are building “The People’s Republic” — powered by The AfriOne Network.

A movement focused on:

Empowering citizens beyond survival

Rebuilding dignity and economic independence

Countering manipulation with structure, education, and opportunity

Giving people a real stake in their future—not temporary relief

Your Support Can Change This Story

We cannot do this alone.

If you believe Nigeria can be better…
If you believe people deserve more than handouts…
If you want to be part of rebuilding a nation…

Then support this mission.

No amount is too small. Every contribution is a statement that we refuse to be bought, silenced, or broken.

Final Word

This is not just about politics.
This is about dignity.
This is about the future.

We either keep trading our future for survival…
Or we rise together to rebuild it.

Be part of the solution.

Tonight 7PM on The AfriOne Show – Voice of the New Tribe on 107.7 FM, we open a conversation many people avoid.

Single Parenting: Understanding the Reality, the Struggle, and the Future

We dive into difficult but necessary questions:

• Baby mama & baby daddy drama
• Dating again as a single parent
• Are children sometimes used as weapons between parents?
• What do the law, culture, and society say about the rights of the child and the single parent?

And the deeper questions we must confront:

1. Are single parents still considered dateable, or are they seen as complicated?

2. Are we truly parenting in the interest of the child, or in the interest of our ego and unresolved emotions?

3. What are the long-term effects of children growing up in single-parent homes on society?

4. How do we manage and resolve parenting conflicts responsibly?

This episode will challenge perspectives, expose realities, and spark important conversations across homes and communities.

If you grew up in a single-parent home…
If you are a single parent…
Or if you have witnessed the tension between parents raising a child apart…

This conversation is for you.

Tonight at 7PM on Armed Forces Radio 107.7 FM – Abuja, Nigeria

Theme: Who Truly Owns Nigeria?

Was it the kings before 1884?
Was it the Europeans who gathered in Berlin to divide Africa?
Was it the Royal Niger Company that traded our land like merchandise?
Was it the British Crown during colonial rule?
Was it the soldiers who took power in 1966?
Was it the oil companies after the Biafra war?
Or is it the political class we see today?

Or… does Nigeria truly belong to the Nigerian people?

Join The Afropolitan Apostle, Darlington Steve, as we dig deep into this powerful conversation — uncovering history, questioning the present, and challenging everything we thought we knew.
