FEDUSA advocates for Decent Work for all with a key focus on the eradication of corruption and the drastic improvement of education. FEDUSA is the largest politically non-aligned trade union federation in South Africa and represents a diverse membership from a variety of sectors in industry. Its members included technicians, administrative employees, pilots, flight engineers, general assistants, n
urses, doctors, teachers and other skilled and semi – skilled employees from both the public and private sector of the economy. FEDUSA was established on 1 April 1997 through the amalgamation of two federations, namely the Federation of South African Labour Unions (FEDSAL) and Federation of Organisations Representing Civil Employees (FORCE). Today, FEDUSA and its affiliated trade unions are continually striving to fulfill their mandate of ensuring social justice through decent work. FEDUSA is able to play a major role in South African labour relations and the formulation of labour policy and is ever committed to defending the rights of workers. On an international level FEDUSA maintains good relations with many trade union federations in other countries and communicates regularly through a number of international forums to exchange information, skills and strategies in the attempt to ultimately create a better life for all through the agenda for decent work. Through its participation in the International Labour Organisation (ILO), International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the Trade Union Advisory Committee (TUAC) to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) FEDUSA is able to meaningfully contribute to the promotion of workers’ rights at an international level while simultaneously translating this international experience into domestic development.
