End-of-Life Doula Information, Training and Support My first job was as a Professional Nurse. In 2015 I took a redundancy package and started out on my own.
I qualified as a General Nurse, Midwife and Psychiatric Nurse, but found my passion after completing a Diploma In Intensive Care Nursing. I spent 15 years working in an academic ICU both as shift leader as well as Charge Nurse. I qualified as a Nurse Tutor and thoroughly enjoyed teaching at the bedside. In 1993 my husband was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and as it became clear that he would s
teadily deteriorate I moved to the pharmaceutical industry in 1995. My journey here spanned 20 years with various roles in Sales, Marketing, HR, Learning and Development, Six Sigma as well as on the Executive Team. I have always being a motivational teacher, healer and empath and used my skills as counsellor, coach and mentor in the business environment on a daily basis. Over time, I have helped many individuals along their end-of-life journey and in the corporate environment this unfolded in creating safe spaces for helping friends, family and relatives prepare for, assist with and finding completion with end-of-life matters. I am a consultant, coach and professional facilitator. In South Africa resources for the dying and elderly are very limited. I am hoping to contribute towards changing this trend. I continue to look after my husband, who has been bed bound for the last 11 years.
We are so much more than our bodies. Our souls are deathless and ageless. We came because we are loved, but we came to learn about love. Love is all that there is. Enjoy this post!
As a death doula, I often say that sitting at the bedside of the dying is one of the greatest privileges of my life. Their final wishes, tears, joys, and wisdom have given me the tools for living a meaningful life. In fact, the dying have been my greatest teachers.
