👟☕ Slipper Day smiles at Wimpy Robertson!

Our amazing team at Breede River Hospice kicked off their shoes and worries today to support a great cause. We enjoyed a well-deserved cuppa coffee and cappuccino, thanks to the friendly folks at Wimpy Robertson.

But what is ?

🇿🇦 In , Slipper Day is a national fundraiser where you wear your favourite slippers to work or school in exchange for a small donation. It supports the The Reach For A Dream Foundation, helping to fulfill the dreams of children fighting life-threatening illnesses.

By wearing our comfiest slippers today, we’re helping make a child’s dream come true. One small step for our feet, one giant leap for a child’s heart. ❤️

Breede River Hospice Palliative Care Forum
21 May 2026

Just one week after devastating floods, we were deeply heartened to see colleagues from other hospices make the effort to join us. Your presence meant the world to us.

The day stretched our minds and broadened our horizons. Sr Nickie Crookes took us back to pioneers like Florence Nightingale and Cecily Saunders. Francois de Wet joined us live from Berlin. Dr. Benim Botha's case studies left us better equipped. And yes – even mushrooms might help ease end-of-life anxiety!

Amalia Verbeek's art therapy session reminded us to step out of our clinical boxes and embrace creativity. Over tea and lunch, the connections made were just as valuable as the sessions.

Thank you to all who made this possible. We leave humbled by how vast palliative care truly is – and reassured that our presence, our touch, makes a real difference.
