On Youth Day, we remember the courage of the young people of 1976 who stood up for equality, dignity, and a better future for all South Africans.

Today, a new generation faces a different challenge.

Our Constitution gives every South African the right to an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being. But with that right comes responsibility. The future of our rivers, forests, oceans, wildlife, and communities depends on the choices we make today.

The youth of 1976 fought to secure our rights. The youth of today have the opportunity to secure our future.

By protecting nature, reducing pollution, conserving resources, and speaking up for the environment, young people can become the leaders our country needs. The future of South Africa's natural heritage is now in their hands.

As Nelson Mandela said: "Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation."

This Youth Day, let us inspire and empower young South Africans to become environmental champions, protecting our planet and securing a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come.

πŸ’šπŸ¦Ž Young leaders making a difference! πŸ¦ŽπŸ’š
Grade 6 learner, Green Club Chairperson, and passionate conservationist Lexi Ogden has chosen to dedicate her Ductus Leadership Challenge to conservation this year. 🌿
After the recent storm, Lexi called on the community to help rescue displaced chameleons, and the response was incredible! πŸ™Œ Families, children, and nature lovers came together to search for and safely relocate these remarkable little reptiles. 🦎✨
This initiative has already contributed two hours towards Lexi's conservation service challenge, but more importantly, it has shown what can happen when a community unites to protect local wildlife. πŸŒπŸ’š
Well done, Lexi, for leading by example and inspiring others to become champions for nature! πŸŒ±πŸ‘

πŸŒΏπŸ‘€ Yesterday, 120 Grade R learners from George Voorbereiding Skool visited the beautiful Garden Route Botanical Gardens for a day filled with wonder, exploration, and discovery! 🐞🌱🌳

Our environmental education program is all about awakening the power of observation β€” learning to notice the tiny critters, seeds, trees, movement, patterns, and the magic of nature all around us. Through exploration, curiosity, and hands-on discovery, these little nature champions sharpened their observation skills while having loads of fun outdoors! πŸŒΌπŸ¦‹βœ¨

Thank you, Voorbereiding School, for spending the day with us β€” we loved sharing the garden with you and can’t wait to see you again! πŸ’šπŸŒ

LET'S STOP DEEP SEA MINING BEFORE IT STARTS.

The deep sea mining industry has not yet started to tear up the seabed. We therefore have the opportunity to stop an environmental disaster before it happens.

Policymakers MUST establish marine protected areas, and support a moratorium on deep sea mining.

Take action below πŸ‘‡

Landmark has studied the leopards along the West Coast since 2019 when we became aware that this region was being colonised, literally, for the first time since the 1840s when leopards were shut out in this region of the Western Cape. Since then we have confirmed the presence of five adults, and since April, 2 cubs. You’re keeping an eye out for this early, and as yet tentative, recolonisation by the species. This video is one of the known males. He is certainly in magnificent condition.
