Rotary had an urgent request from a community member who supplies warm meals to the Valley’s needy; and out of his own pocket !!

Rotary’s president, Gary, heard his urgent plea and met Rudy’s wife Zedekiah at Pick n Pay in Riebeek West.

Here they filled a basket with the makings of a hot meal for the needy which will be served tomorrow.

Out and about in our community.

Gifts received from kind supporters, our Knit n Natter club members, and a gentleman for whom we are attempting to obtain cataract surgery. He handed over a huge bag of kiddies clothes.

Such a happy morning fitting warm beanies on little heads at Esterhof Kleuterskool. Such responsive kiddos, and happy to have something new to wear.

Grateful thanks to our talented Knit and Natter club members. Hope you’ve got your needles at the ready? Unfortunately the pre-school Class aged 6 to 7, weren’t on the receiving end of a new beanie.

I’m hoping we’ll be gifted a few balls of wool and then all the kids will have a warm beanie!! The Riebeek Tourism office is happy to receive them for us.

It was gratifying to watch the children still playing creatively with the Duplo Rotary had gifted them a couple of years ago.

Rotary is so proud of this happy band of Knit and Natter Club members. Here are only half the members in attendance this past First Wednesday, but in total they all, within a 4 week cycle, produce arms full of highly needed items for families in our valley.

On hearing of a young wheelchair bound man who is an enthusiastic Rugby Club supporter, a warm lap rug was produced (and fingerless mittens) to enhance his sport viewing.

Lots of baby blankets, lap rugs, beanies and more are due for handing out this week in anticipation of the incoming cold.

Any generous villagers with left over wool - or even new skeins - Tourism on Die Plein, Kasteel, are happy to be our repository!

Needs are discovered in the simplest of ways.

A RV Rotarian in the supermarket queue alongside a customer struck up a conversation.
The customer has single vision and the existing eye has a severe cataract diminishing his sight.

Following our successful Sight for Future campaign and with the assistance and advice of a Rotarian Optometrist, we were able to secure the urgent treatment needed for this gentleman.

Soon with restored vision, he might well recognise some of the beautiful outfits he’s donated, scampering around on a few of our Valley’s needy toddlers.

Assistance is always mutual!

Huge thanks to our Valley folk - the Tourism Office which was a school shoe repository, Riebeek Kasteel Primary whose children via caring parents, heeded the call by Headmistress Isabella, and filled boxes with not only school shoes, used and brand new, but socks and more socks!!

Rotary President Gary excitedly handed over this bounty to Headmasters, Brenton and Collen, who, in knowing the needs of their learners at Meiring Primer and Riebeek Wes Primer, will ensure their wise distribution.
