Isn’t it amazing that something small can mean big things to other people? We are a tiny organization being run by a handful of volunteers communicating and supporting another dozen volunteers and staff located 4,000 miles away. None of it is possible without the financial, in-kind and volunteer support we receive from people here in the US, Rotary members here and abroad as well as the many friends we’ve met along the way.

Well, we are more than grateful for all the support we’ve enjoyed from our supporters, individuals like you, who are willing to get behind the notion that poverty and hunger can be alleviated. Efforts to improve health, access to resources, self-esteem and even get a little help with things like homework, gross motor skills, computer literacy and leadership development are just a few of the pathways we’ve utilized to help children.

We have given many thanks for our supporters, as each and every one of you have invested in our mission to support healthy children in order to build healthy communities. We work to nourish young minds, providing an engaging structure with a variety of initiatives, while providing peace and hope with our programming at The Richmond Community Center and the surrounding Karoo region of South Africa.

As we continue to grow, we make additions each year to our outreach efforts because of the unwavering support of so many. The need is great and we are extraordinarily grateful to have partners in Richmond who work to implement the day-to-day programs including our Soup Kitchen, E-Learning Center, Library and Sports programs, not to mention outreach to the nearby Squatters Camp.

As the year winds down, help us spread hope and joy and gratitude–please consider making a special end-of-year donation to Hope in South Africa (https://donorbox.org/hisa-cycle-for-hope-2025-campaign-hope-in-south-africa). Your investment will kickstart our 2026 campaign.

Many thanks for all you do to make this work possible! We are most appreciative!

WOW! WOW! WOW! What an amazing day at Sundowners!

The picture perfect day made for building community and you, our supporters, contributed to raising up the community of Richmond with your generous donations. We are so grateful that we were able to celebrate our successes with so many of you in person.

Many thanks to everyone who attended, made our event possible and supported our endeavors! We were thrilled to have such a robust raffle and fundraising event.

As you can see, fun was had by all! From the stellar music, to corn hole, to the hayrides and the hiking and biking trails, there was just shear enjoyment by all in attendance.

We were thrilled to see so many smiling faces at the farm and to raise nearly $20,000 towards our goal. We are excited to close the gap and reach our funding target of $30,000 for our 2025 campaign. If we can hit it by the end of next month, it will give us a head start to our fundraising campaign for 2026.

If you weren’t able to attend or haven’t had time to make a contribution, there is still time to support this year’s fundraising event! (Link in bio)

Join us at our Annual Fundraiser Sundowners on Saturday, October 18th

Support our efforts to bring Hope to the children and adults in Richmond and come to our annual fundraiser.

We hope you’ll join us starting at 1 pm for the party with music, unlimited moon bounce, ice cream, games, hayrides, newly expanded biking and hiking trail and of course community. You certainly don’t want to miss out!

Bring a dish and beverage to share, chairs for your family and please no dogs.

We are looking forward to sharing with you our bike centered initiatives and the infrastructure improvements that we’ve made happen in the Karoo region of South Africa and at our own Community Center in Richmond.

Please know that your contributions at Sundowners will go a long way towards meeting our continuing infrastructure goals and our long-term commitment to improving the quality of life in Richmond.

Fun for the whole family while we Cycle for Hope in 2025!

Keeping it all secure.

Rounding out our infrastructure improvements, we installed paving in advance to create our bike storage & work area. This gives us an even surface to service bikes and stage them for various activities.

The new security cameras protect our investments that we utilize to support the children and community members in Richmond.

This Saturday we’ll be at the Richmond Market Day! Our newly formed sewing group, organized by GHISA volunteers, will be selling a variety of hand sewn items that you can purchase to support their entrepreneurial efforts. Kevin and Beth McKey are working to gather more fabric, zippers and haberdashery. There is also a contingent of knitters, so wool, yarn and needles would be appreciated. Come to shop or donate much needed items!

The Richmond Market Day is Saturday, September 6th from 10-2pm. It is located opposite the Ubuntu Municipal Hall in Loop Street.

WOW!

We can’t thank you enough for your support this year. We were able to continue with our 5-year plan to make infrastructure improvements in order to efficiently run our operations for the children and community members in Richmond.

We did more than add a fresh coat of paint. The roof, lighting and structure were all improved significantly. Now we can expand our programming back into this safe, clean space!

Our sun cloth set sail permanently! The weather conditions made keeping a sunshade intact for the 25,000+ meal recipients we serve each year completely untenable. We are thrilled to share our long-term solution to cover the area outside of our soup kitchen.

Thank you for making this possible by investing in our efforts to support healthy children to build a healthy community.
