Today, we honour the brave young people of 1976 whose courage changed the course of South Africa’s history.
They were not much older than the learners we see in our classrooms today, yet they stood up against injustice and demanded something many now take for granted — the right to equal and quality education.
Their voices echoed far beyond the streets of Soweto. They sparked a movement, inspired a nation, and reminded the world that young people have the power to challenge injustice and create change.
As we commemorate Youth Day, we remember their sacrifice, celebrate their legacy, and reaffirm our commitment to building a future where every young person has the opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams.
The freedom to learn was fought for. Let us never forget those who made it possible.
