It does not only make a difference — it gives hope to a child, a mother, a father and families who are trying their best to get through each day.
This morning, I visited a primary school just before break time. A few little faces came running to say hello, give hugs and share their stories.
While I was chatting to them, a few children came to collect their lunches. Today, they received an extra blessing — apples with their sandwiches.
A little boy and his sister came to get their food, and as he took his sandwich from the container, one fell onto the floor. Within seconds, he picked it up and quickly put the polony into his mouth. The teacher tried to stop him and told him he could take another one, but before we could even react, he had already eaten the slice of bread too.
In that moment, my heart broke all over again.
He was not being careless.
He was hungry.
So hungry that all he could think about was eating as quickly as possible.
I gently stopped his little hands and said, “Slow down, take a breath, it’s okay. There is enough food. You can take another two.”
Those big brown eyes were filled with fear at first… but slowly, that fear faded. He calmed down. He realised there was enough for him.
And that is why your donation matters.
Every sandwich, every apple, every item and every rand brings more than food. It brings comfort. It brings relief. It brings dignity. It brings hope.
