A Warrior's Lament

They call it rescue.

But they do not see the war.

They do not see me standing alone in the trenches,
holding the line for souls the world has abandoned,
fighting battles that never end,
bleeding in places no eye can see.

Every sunrise brings another fight.
Another hungry mouth.
Another desperate plea.
Another life hanging by a thread.

And I stand.

Not because I am fearless,
but because there is nobody else.

The darkness knows my name.
It walks beside me in broad daylight,
working against every step I take,
turning roads into obstacles,
hope into heartbreak,
and faith into exhaustion.

I have walked into walls so many times
that I no longer count the bruises.

I have cried tears no one witnessed.
Carried burdens no one offered to share.
Screamed silent prayers into empty nights,
wondering how much more one soul can endure.

Yet still...

I rise.

Like a warrior forged in fire,
I rise.

Not for glory.
Not for recognition.
Not for applause.

I rise for the trembling dog waiting for kindness.
For the frightened cat searching for safety.
For every abandoned soul whose only crime
was loving humans too much.

The world may see one woman.

I see an army.

An army of paws,
hearts,
and innocent lives
marching beside me.

My spirit may be battered,
but it is not broken.
My heart may be wounded,
but it still beats for them.

And if I must walk this road alone,
then I will walk it like a warrior.

Head high.

🚨 **URGENT APPEAL FOR HELP** 🚨

Today, we come to you with heavy hearts.

At **Cast Aways Animal Sanctuary**, we fight every single day to give abandoned, abused, and neglected animals a second chance at life. Every donation we receive goes towards food, blankets, vaccinations, deworming, parasite control, veterinary care, and the daily needs of the animals in our care.

Right now, we are facing one of our biggest challenges yet.

Our primary cellphone service is on the verge of being suspended, and we urgently need **R3,000 before Monday** to keep it active. This phone is our lifeline for emergencies, rescue calls, adoptions, and communication with our supporters.

In addition, we are struggling to cover this week's staff wages for our incredible team who work tirelessly, often going above and beyond, to care for and clean up after our animals every day.

Without immediate assistance, our sanctuary is at risk of collapsing.

🐾 We Are the Voice for the Voiceless 🐾

Today we returned to the field where Lily and Shadow were found.

What we discovered was heartbreaking.
A total of 41 snares were removed from the area. One of them had already claimed another victim — a meerkat trapped in the cruel wire. We also discovered the skeleton of a cat, white and ginger in colour, a tragic reminder that these snares do not only target wildlife but also beloved pets.

This is not just a wildlife problem. It is a community problem.
We refuse to stand by and do nothing.
From now on, we will return to the area every second week to search for and remove any new snares we find. We will continue documenting what we discover and reporting these acts of cruelty wherever necessary.

We ask everyone to remain vigilant. If you walk your dogs, allow your cats outdoors, or care about the wildlife that shares our environment, please help us by reporting suspicious activity and checking areas where snares may be hidden.

Our animals cannot speak for themselves.
We are their voice when no one else is there.
For Lily. For Shadow. For every animal that has suffered silently.
Until the snares stop, we won't stop. 🐾💔
