How to Protect Your Family & Home 🏡🔐 | RRVA Safety Awareness Evening 👮‍♂️

Thank you to all residents who joined us at Randpark High School for an insightful and engaging evening. Community spirit and proactive safety awareness were on full display as residents listened to Mario Sequeira, a 6th Dan martial arts expert from Palmcourt Karate Centre.

The session focused on common sense based self-protection strategies, along with an emphasis on gate and gate motor safety - a growing concern within the greater Honeydew area, of which our operating area falls within. Between 1 January and 11 May 2026, a concerning 141 gate motors have been stolen in the greater area, highlighting the importance of vigilance and preventative action.

Residents were handed a booklet featuring a range of useful, practical measures to better safeguard their gates and gate motors from tampering or theft, as well as what to do in the unfortunate event that an incident occurs. A dedicated video demonstrating preventative techniques, along with the downloadable booklet containing guidelines is available on the RRVA website: www.rrva.net .

The evening also benefited from the presence of area managers from EC Security Services and Beagle Watch Armed Response, who provided valuable insights into the most effective and realistic ways to enhance home security from an operational perspective. Their contributions helped bridge the gap between theory and real-world application, giving residents actionable steps they can implement immediately.

Beyond the valuable information shared, the event created space for meaningful community interaction. Residents openly shared their own experiences, exchanged ideas, and connected with neighbours in a relaxed and supportive environment. There was a sense that, while the topic was serious, the evening was both enjoyable and empowering for those who attended.

There is clear merit in coming together as a community... not only to stay informed, but to strengthen the collective effort to keep Randpark Ridge safe.

The RRVA extends its sincere thanks to Mario Sequeira, EC Security Services, Beagle Watch Armed Response, and Randpark High School for accommodating and supporting this important initiative. 💙

Reminder: Visit the RRVA website to access the video and download the hints & tips booklet: www.rrva.net 🌐

🌿✨ RRVA Community Clean-Up Update ✨🌿

Our dedicated maintenance team has been hard at work over the last few weeks, continuing efforts to keep Randpark Ridge clean, safe and well cared for 💪💚

Here’s some of what’s been done:
✅ Removed weeds around the islands on Molope Road
✅ Continued maintenance along the Beyers Naudé embankment from Molope Road, past Mimosa Road, towards the back of Fiskaal Crescent
✅ Cleared overgrowth and weeds from the stairs at the top of Randpark Drive
✅ Started grass cutting and maintenance work at Hymany Park 🌿
✅ Responsibly disposed of garden refuse collected during clean-ups
✅ Continued the weekly clearing of the steel bins 🗑️

🙏 A gentle reminder to residents... please refrain from using the steel bins for household rubbish. These bins are there for litter from pedestrians and park users, and filling them with household waste creates unnecessary strain on the system and extra clean-up work for the team.

💚 A heartfelt thank you to all our members and donors who make this work possible. As a volunteer-driven and donor-funded organisation, every contribution helps us do more for our neighbourhood.

If you’d like to help us continue improving and maintaining our corner of Randpark Ridge, we’d love for you to join us 😊

🏡🔐 Safety Talk: Protecting Our Homes and Families🔐🏡

In response to the recent spike in electric gate motor thefts and other petty crimes in Randpark Ridge, the RRVA has organised a special safety talk to help residents take practical steps to better protect their homes and loved ones.

We warmly invite all residents, as well as your friends and family, to attend this valuable and informative evening.

Longstanding RRVA volunteer and resident Rod Rankine has attended this presentation twice before and highly recommends it:
“I have attended this brilliant talk twice before. The last time Mario presented for the RRVA in 2019, it was very well attended and extremely well received. I strongly encourage all residents to attend.”

🎤 The talk will be presented by Mario Sequeira .

Although Mario is a 6th Dan karate expert, this is not a karate or self-defense class, and no lessons will be promoted. Instead, he will share practical, common-sense strategies that can make a real difference in keeping you, your family and your property safe.

✅ Free to attend
✅ Open to all residents
✅ Friends and family welcome

🌿👏 Community Clean-up Update: Special Project 🌿👏
Community in Action – Thank You to Our Incredible Residents!

We’re proud to share the completion of another impactful clean-up along the boundary of our operating area at Rabie Road.

Thanks to the combined efforts of our volunteers, dedicated maintenance team, and hands-on residents, this space has been cleared of all illegally dumped rubble and showcases our neighbourhood as one that is visibly cared for and easier to maintain.

✨ Highlights:
✅Significant clearing of illegally dumped rubble
✅Dozens of wheelbarrow loads removed
✅Multiple skip bins filled – a massive collective effort
✅Additional clean-up of fibre optic cables and waste left behind by a service provider during installation work
✅A cleaner, safer, and more maintainable environment

👏 A Special Thanks to Amazing Residents:
🤩Rod Rankine for consistently going above and beyond by personally removing rubble (he highly recommends it as exercise if you’re looking to boost your step count 😄 – and as an added bonus, the energy you expend directly benefits your community!). Rod also identified and began clearing further illegally dumped material, including fibre installation waste, and continues the effort. He also collected rocks from Rabie Road and placed them in the Medlar scour cavity to help slow erosion during heavy rains – a small but important intervention to protect our infrastructure.
🤩Rudzani Nethonoda & team for their incredible pro bono work in our greenbelt earlier this year and continued support with special projects at discounted rates. Their team cleared dozens of wheelbarrow loads and filled multiple skip bins – a huge impact!
🤩Carsten Ullman & his gardener, Mark, who both jumped in and cleared an entire heap of rubble, showing true community spirit.
🤩Stuart Hill for responsibly disposing of glass bottles found dumped in the greenbelt.
There are many others...

💬 Most of this is possible with the ongoing support of our RRVA members, whose contributions fund initiatives like this and enable us to respond quickly and effectively. Your support truly makes a visible difference in our neighbourhood. 💙

🚫 Gentle reminder: Illegal dumping harms our neighbourhood, increases costs, and undoes the hard work of volunteers. Let’s all play our part.

🍂🌿 RRVA Community Clean-Up Update 🌿🍂

With autumn settling in, the leaves are falling… and our dedicated maintenance team has been hard at work keeping things clear and flowing as they should 💪

Here’s what they tackled:
✅ Seder Street verges cleaned and drains cleared
✅ Medlar Road verges cleaned, drains cleared, substation tidied & surrounding area maintained, and ongoing clearing of stormwater drains to keep systems functioning properly

💡 Why this matters:
Keeping our stormwater drains clean isn’t just about neatness… it helps prevent bigger issues like flooding and even more potholes forming. It’s one of those small things that makes a big difference to our neighbourhood.

🙏 A gentle appeal to all residents: we’ve noticed a growing habit of blowing leaves and litter straight into stormwater inlets. While it may seem like a quick fix, it actually causes blockages and leads to bigger problems for everyone.

Let’s work together, take a little extra care, and keep our shared spaces functioning as they should. 💚

If you’d like to support these ongoing efforts, consider joining the RRVA. The more hands (and hearts) involved, the more we can do together. 💙

🌿✨ RRVA Community Clean-Up Update ✨🌿

As March comes to an end, we thought it’s time to share more of what our dedicated maintenance crew have accomplished. 💪

A highlight this month was a special project, fully funded by generous donations 🙏:
🚧 The removal of illegally dumped rubble along our boundary on Rabie Street, a big clean-up with an even bigger impact on safety and aesthetics.

Here’s some of the work completed in between the stormy days:
✅ Cleared vegetative overgrowth around our substations
✅ Weekly emptying of dustbins and responsible disposal of collected waste 🗑️
✅ Cleaned out storm water drains to prevent blockages 🌊
✅ Tidied verges along Randpark Drive, Rosyntjiebos Street, Seder Street and Molope Road 🌿
✅ Cleared walking pathways along Randpark Drive 🚶‍♀️

💚 A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, members and donors… this work is only possible because of you. Together, we continue to maintain and uplift our corner of Randpark Ridge.

🌿💧 Community Clean-Up Update 💧🌿

Our dedicated RRVA maintenance team has been hard at work around the Hymany Park Dam, and we’re proud to share some of the efforts captured on camera 📸

From clearing overgrowth and cleaning around the water’s edge, to removing debris and restoring the surrounding area, the team has made a visible difference. 🌱

This is one of those areas we all enjoy, especially the angling club... and it deserves to be clean, safe, and cared for. 💚

🙏 Thank you to our members who make this work possible through their ongoing donations and support.

💡 If you’d like to see more spaces maintained, consider joining the RRVA. Together, we can keep our neighbourhood well looked after, and protect our property prices!

🌿✨ RRVA Community Clean-Up Update ✨🌿

Our dedicated maintenance team has been hard at work again last week, quietly keeping our neighbourhood neat, safe and welcoming. Here’s some of what they tackled:

✅ Cleared the park passageways from Tamarisk Street and Hibiscus Street, making access safer and more pleasant
✅ Did maintenance and tidying on the entrance islands at Beyers Naudé Drive and Ysterhout Drive
✅ Cleared vegetation along our boundary on Molope Road

This kind of regular care does more than just make things look tidy when we drive home after a long day. A well-maintained neighbourhood helps protect property values, improve safety, and build pride in where we live.

Think of it this way… a little community effort today helps make sure our homes are still worth celebrating tomorrow ✨

💚 The more residents who join the RRVA, the more we can pool our resources and keep our corner of Randpark Ridge looking great and functioning well.

If you’d like to support and contribute towards the work and become a member, we’d love to hear from you. 💙
