ππ Happy Youth Day, South Africa πΏπ¦
In 1976, young people stood up against apartheid and fought for their right to education, dignity, and freedom. Their courage changed the course of history.
Today, the struggle looks different, but the fight continues.
Intersex youth are still fighting to have their bodies respected. We are fighting for bodily autonomy, informed consent, access to honest information, and the right to grow up without unnecessary and irreversible decisions being made on our behalf.
The youth of 1976 challenged a system that denied them their humanity. Today, intersex young people challenge systems that too often silence our voices and make decisions about our bodies without us.
This is our struggle.
This is our freedom movement.
This is our fight for dignity, self-determination, and human rights.
As we honour the youth who came before us, we also celebrate the intersex youth who continue to raise their voices, share their stories, and demand a future where every young person is respected exactly as they are.
β¨ You deserve bodily autonomy.
β¨ You deserve informed consent.
β¨ You deserve time to understand your body.
β¨ You deserve support.
β¨ You deserve respect.
Your body. Your choices. Your power.
