On 10 February 2026, Tropical Cyclone Gezani, one of the most violent ever recorded in the region, struck Toamasina with winds reaching 250 km/h. The city of 500,000 inhabitants has suffered extensive damage.

At this time, the cyclone has left widespread destruction across eastern and central Madagascar beyond repair with Madagascans struggling to survive.

The impact is devastating:
- Over 400,000 people were estimated to be directly affected by the storm, including nearly 200,000 children
- The latest official figures reported at least 59 people dead and over 800 injured across Madagascar, with some still listed as missing.
- Entire neighbourhoods in Toamasina, a city of about 400,000 people, were devastated - roofs blown off, walls collapsed, and infrastructure flattened.
- Several health centres and hospitals were damaged, including major hospitals in Toamasina.

Just like every year since 2000, 2025 was another year of fighting hidden hunger and malnutrition. It was a year of kindness, a year of hope and a year of giving back for the e'Pap Foundation.

We managed to provide over 200 000 meals with the help of our donors to the e'Pap feeding projects along the Western Cape as well as ECD's, impoverished community's and organisations across South Africa. Seeing lives transformed and communities empowered reminds us that meaningful change is only possible through collective action and real nutrition.

What's your purpose?

e’Pap began as a simple meal for those suffering from malnutrition, a lifeline for children and families living in poverty. Our foundation is what drives us forward, and this past week, we were humbled to provide over 100,000 meals to a community often called “the forgotten ones.”

Last week, together with TuT university, the e’Pap team embarked on our annual journey to Ndumo Game Reserve, completing one of our most meaningful distribution programs to date. We reached 14 primary schools and multiple community centres across the South Africa - Mozambique corridor, Ndumo, and Swaziland.

Over a five-day period, we distributed 5 tons of e’Pap porridge and provided every school and centre with fortified peanut butter, ensuring that thousands of vulnerable learners received nutrient-dense meals they could truly rely on.

For many of these children, e’Pap is the only meal they have before starting their school day. With 90% of Ndumo learners living below the poverty line, this work is not just important, it is life changing.

Every meal served is a step toward hope, nourishment, and the future these children deserve.

Last weekend, school children that are part of the Knysna feeding project put on a show at the Leisure Isle Festival

For the past 23 years, the e'Pap Foundation has been supporting school children with e'Pap porridge. It has been amazing to see the miraculous effects e'Pap has had on the lives of these children. In 2020 we had provided over 1 million meals to school children along the Garden Route. It's now time to double that.

We are dedicated and determined to put a stop to hidden hunger and build a nutrient replete nation
