Decriminalization of private substance use will allow for the development of controlled substances that in theory would disrupt the supply of illicit substances and allow for evidence based research in end finding a solution to the pandemic known as substance use.
As long as substance use remains associated with punitive measures, those who are struggling with the disorder, will NEVER TRUTHFULLY give information with what he/she is experiencing before, during and post use or relapse. WITH FALSE DATA INPUT, RESEARCH CONCLUSIONS ARE RENDERED NUL AND VOID!

We can curb the spread of illicit substance use and the damage it causes to the individual, families, society and our nation. Education and awareness of the dangers around harmful substance use are sound principles.

Let's prevent first time use, reduce the harm and unite in stopping the supply of illicit substances.

We continue our efforts in preventing underage harmful substances use or exposure. Although the stigma and general understanding around substance use and dependency remains distorted and detremental to persons struggling with dependency, it seems the only viable option is advocating for substance use disorder to be declared a health albeit mental health crises and not a criminal issue. Punitive systems cause more harm to already damaged persons. Decriminalization of private substance use allows for control over supply of illicit substances as well as reduction in harm caused by substance use.

The before and after scene of People Who Use Drugs (PWUD), targeted displacement. With a severe lack of any and every imaginable service required by the PWUD sector, if not on the sidewalk, nor under a bridge, where exactly should our community members find shelter? We appeal to the city of Tshwane as well as the Gauteng Provincial Government to protect the rights of PWUD, to strengthen ties with the sector and continue with engagements that are proving effective when done in collaboration with "lived experience", to assist with delivery of life saving medical, mental and social services and most importantly to support people who use drugs, not punish them.
Stop the supply of illicit substances.

Note the "we don't do crime" painted on the walls, PWUD have taken responsibility as communities in ridding previously known hotspots of petty crime upon ourselves.
SANAC CSF PWUD sub sector Tshwane District Chairwoman Ms. Rethabile Seshabela and Deputy, Barend Beukes during community outreach and engagements leading up to World Aids day 1st of December 2025.

As a peer led and founded grassroot NPO, we have the opportunity to converse with PWUD in a manner that official structures never have the privilege of doing truthfully.
Here's our prayer for a way out of terrible living conditions. It begins with a solid foundation of non stigmatized friendship and trust.
Each person know enough about his/her circumstances to find solutions for themselves. The only thing lacking is Empowerment to pursue real meaningful change!
