African Students For Liberty - Pretoria (ASFL-PTA) is a libertarian student group which is still to be officially registered at the University of Pretoria (UP), which is located in Hatfield. ASFL-PTA is the first pro-liberty group affiliated with the popular Students For Liberty (SFL) network to be established in the Republic of South Africa, and was founded in early November 2014. The group follo
ws an inclusive participation approach, and welcomes anyone who believes themselves to be dedicated to the ideas of freedom and liberty. The broad principles which underlie the libertarian ideal are those of self-ownership and non-aggression. Self-ownership holds that every individual has an inalienable right to life, liberty and property; while non-aggression holds that every individual has an inescapable obligation to respect the life, liberty and property of others. Students at the University of Pretoria or another tertiary institution in Gauteng are encouraged to contact the page ("message" button above) to get involved. Leaders and representatives of other organizations, groups or institutions which seek to promote the ideas of individual liberty and/or free market economics are likewise encouraged to get in contact with the Branch Committee to arrange for collaboration and cooperation.
