“The rationale for this Summit stems from discussions held within UNESCO over the past year dealing with a universal concern that we need to bring men and boys into the discourses on gender equality.

In 2015, UNESCO launched its Transforming MENtalities Programme in Latin America and the Caribbean, to promote positive redefinitions of norms of masculinity and meaningful engagement of men and boys, alongside women and girls, in the global pursuit for gender equality”, said Dr Blade Nzimande during his keynote address at the Transforming Mentalities Summit 2023 at Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre

As Pride month begins, the ED shares a thought on the parallels between US and SA history of Pride.

As in the case of the US, the first Pride on the African continent took place out of a moment of resistance against a system that oppressed not only black people, but also pathologised same-sex love and desiring.

SAHEQA is extremely appalled by the recent signing of the Anti-homosexuality Bill in Uganda. This is a total opposite of where we see Africa going, especially when it comes to progressive inclusion across various African societies. We condemn this Bill and believe it should be repealed.
