FLYING THE SOUTH AFRICAN FLAG IN OMAN
Our Protea team has concluded the 2026 Jebel Sifah International Fishing Tournament in Oman, finishing ninth overall among 15 teams from eight countries.
Representing South Africa were Sean Joubert, Bryan Jooste, Marius Botha and Rudi Moolman, competing alongside anglers from Jordan, Egypt, Switzerland, Morocco, Oman, Italy and Kuwait.
After spending the opening day targeting marlin, Sean’s 15 kg dorado put South Africa on the scoreboard. Despite another determined effort on the final day, the team was unable to add to their points.
Tournament fishing can offer few opportunities, even after long hours on the water. Although the team had hoped for a stronger result, they remained committed throughout both days of competition.
Well done to our Proteas, and thank you for representing South Africa with pride.
SADSAA also thanks the organisers and hosts for their hospitality, and everyone back home who supported the team throughout the tournament.
We wish our anglers a safe journey home.

OMAN UPDATE: PROTEAS ON THE BOARD!

The marlin kept our Proteas guessing today! Despite spending the day chasing billfish at the Jebel Sifah International Fishing Tournament, the team couldn’t convince one to play along.

Sean Joubert made sure South Africa got onto the scoreboard with a lovely 15 kg dorado! 👏🐟

Official scores will only be available tomorrow morning, so we’ll have to wait a little longer to see where our team stands.

Tomorrow brings the second and final day, with everything still to fish for! Tight lines to Sean, Bryan, Marius and Rudi. Here’s hoping the marlin get the memo and turn up hungry!

Bring it home, Team South Africa!

Flying the South African flag are:

• Sean Joubert
