Final Results from Fedje, well done Team South Africa 🎣

The final day of the 2026 Fedje International Bottomfish Championship proved to be tough, with challenging fishing conditions and every angler giving it their all right to the end.

After a hard-fought tournament, the final individual standings are:
β€’ John Leuf – 5th overall
β€’ Allen Ford – 15th overall
β€’ Fred Clarke – 17th overall
β€’ Jacobus β€œKobus” Koekemoer – 23rd overall

A strong performance from the Protea team against a competitive international field, with John finishing in the top 5.

Well done to Allen, Fred, John, and Kobus for representing South Africa with pride and determination throughout the tournament.

Wishing the team safe travels home

It is GO TIME for Team South Africa in Fedje

After several days of tough but productive preparation, our Protea team is ready to take on the 2026 Fedje International Bottomfish Championship.

Representing South Africa:
Allen Ford (Captain), Fred Clarke, John Leuf, and Jacobus Koekemoer.

The team has put in the work across a wide range of conditions, and it has not been easy.

Practice Day 2 saw a strategic shift to shallower water between 25m and 40m, with drifts going as deep as 70m to prepare for possible bad weather. It paid off well, with six different species coming over the side, including cod, coalfish, ling, po***ck, and whiting.

Practice Day 3 was called off due to bad weather, a reminder of how quickly conditions can change in Fedje.

On the final practice day, the team worked deeper water around 140m, targeting key species. Some quality fish came out:
β€’ Cod up to 10kg
β€’ Hake over 6kg
β€’ Ling up to 18kg

Yesterday, being the final practice day, the team also spent time further south to cover all options in case conditions force a move during the tournament. Fishing was slower, but valuable lessons were learned across depths from 20m to 170m, including a solid tusk over 5kg.

One thing is clear, fishing has been stronger further north, but the team has made sure they are prepared for any scenario.

With most international teams now in Fedje and the opening function completed last night, the stage is set.

Today is Day 1 of the tournament.
Four days of fishing lie ahead.
Everything now counts.
