In January, we kicked off our next Heineken Green Zones project at the Speak Life Youth Movement -SLYM premises in Soshanguve, Pretoria.
Our restoration team headed up to Pretoria to host an in-person stakeholder meeting to determine the needs of Speaklife and their community. Thereafter, three design sessions were held with Speaklife to refine the landscape design concept which was then presented to our full group of stakeholders. After approval of the concept, detailed designs were completed and presented to the stakeholders. Once we secure a landscaping contractor, it will be time to break ground! We can't wait.
In February we also kicked off our capacity-building programme and Artwell Chivhinge, an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) specialist, hosted our 1st in-person training session for our Cape Town-based Heineken Green Zone beneficiary partners. Through training sessions like these, we hope to give our partners the tools to ensure the sustainability of their organisations (and gardens) for decades to come.
Our Head of Restoration, Chris Nash, has travelled to Johannesburg to kick-start implementation with local contractors and meet with landscapers to review quotes and subcontract, implementation partners.
This month, weโll be selecting our next two community-based organisations, visiting shortlisted sites, coordinating stakeholder engagement, and stepping into the design phase for our 7th and 8th Heinekenยฎ Green Zones.
