An organization who strives to promote conservation all over Africa, through education! 📚🌍 Knowledge is power.

Vet Books for Africa is a biannual venture, established in 1993, aimed at distributing textbooks, journals and equipment, of veterinary interest, to veterinary faculties in a number of African countries, where these commodities are needed.

8 veterinary students from the University of Pretoria will be travelling from Onderstepoort all the way up to Kenya for 6 weeks at the end of 2022. We aim to

improve international relations between veterinary students in an effort to promote a uniform approach towards animal health care and ultimately, to promote the conservation of this beautiful continent. We want to strive towards making a difference and reaching out to whoever needs a helping hand. We want to be able to unlock a door to proper education of the veterinary field and provide help where we can. This page acts as a platform for us, the 2022 committee, to provide you, our followers, any and all updates about our activities building up to the trip. We as a committee look forward to engaging with you. We hope you fall in love with the mission and become as passionate about it as we are.

What a weekend for VetBooks for Africa! 🐘📚

After getting stuck into our Strongman Competition yesterday, we were back at it bright and early today at HERD’s Trails for Trunks Fun Run! 💪🏼🌍

Our stall was packed with vetkoek, books, supporter’s merch and, most importantly, the opportunity to put VetBooks for Africa in front of a whole new audience.

For us, events like these are about more than fundraising. They give our sponsors real-world brand exposure, connecting their names with veterinary education, conservation, community engagement and supporting a group of passionate students working to make a difference across Africa.

We’re currently working hard to raise funds for our December expedition, where our team of eight will travel across Africa delivering veterinary books, equipment and educational resources to veterinary students and institutions that need them most. 📚🔬

Vetbooks is hosting “Strongman” competition fundraiser at today’s Old res beerfest!! 💪🏼🍺

R20 entry for 4 events to show us how strong you are!!

Various stations to test your strength and speed at the different events!!

The event will run from 12pm-5pm and there will be separate categories for ladies and mens!! So show up in numbers and come compete for some sick prizes!! 🏅

Winner of each category (with the fastest times to complete the tasks) can choose from *one* of the following prizes:
- 1 bottle Brandy (mens winner) or 1 bottle gin (womens winner) OR
- ⁠1 KSP x VB4A cup OR
- ⁠sous sweep/whip.

All fundraising profit goes towards our December trip to support veterinary students in need!! 📚

Some partnerships make a difference. Others create a lasting impact. 💙

A heartfelt thank you to JA Medical for your generous discount of medical supplies and equipment for our June VetBooks for Africa trip to Zimbabwe.

Because of your support, we were able to provide much-needed medical resources and teaching materials to the University of Zimbabwe Faculty of Veterinary Science in Harare, support the team at Twala Trust Animal Sanctuary, and contribute to a rural primary animal health care outreach clinic near Masvingo.

Every box donated represented an opportunity for a student to learn, a veterinarian to provide better care, and an animal to receive the treatment it deserves. The impact of your generosity didn’t end when our trip did, it will continue to be felt by the students, clinics, and communities we were privileged to serve for years to come.

From all of us at VetBooks for Africa, thank you for believing in our mission and helping us make a tangible difference where it matters most. ✨ Throwback Thursday ✨

Looking back on our June VetBooks trip to Zimbabwe has us wishing we were back on the road! 🥹 From unforgettable memories and plenty of laughs to meeting incredible students and delivering much-needed resources, it was a journey we’ll never forget.

As much as we’d love to be back in Zimbabwe, it’s back to lectures for now, and full steam ahead with planning for our December expedition, which is approaching faster than we can believe!

A huge thank you once again to Ford South Africa and the Ford Wildlife Foundation for generously sponsoring both vehicles for our trip. Your support helped make the journey possible, and we’re so grateful to have had such reliable vehicles to get us there and back safely. 🚙💙
